Hey, did your kid play this year? Our team is 2-3 after 5 games.  My son is having an awesome season but the team as a whole is not doing so well, we can't block on the O-line thus we're not moving the ball well.  Gordon is playing fullback and Defensive End. In 5 games he's had 6 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 1 defensive TD. After the 1st quarter of every game they've played, the opposition tends not to run to the left side of our D due to my son's run stopping ability. :D

Yes he is playing again; I am coaching the offensive line and the president of our league.  He is our starting left tackle and a backup on the defensive line.  Right now we are avg 226.5 yards a game on the ground with three backs out of the wishbone and the I sets and are 4-0 with our 5th game tonight.  He hasn't gotten any tackles on defense because he plays in limited time on defense.  We try to have two completely different groups of kids between offense and defense but we do have a few that go both ways.  We try to keep our O-line and D-Lines separate so they get the lions share of work in practice and don't get confused.

If your O-line coach would like a little help I would be glad to help him out but I bet the problems are more with personnel instead of scheme.  Although sometimes you have to adapt your blocking scheme to fit the players you have on the line.  Here we try to put our as many of our best athletes on the line on defense and offense because we are trying to open holes that I could walk through.  On defense we live and die by the blitz but have enough speedy kids to cover potential pass threats.

Sounds like a great season!  Yes, it is our personal...75% of the kids from the lighter division moved up, and that team last year went 0-8. :(  So, we had 5 carry-overs from our championship team in this division last year, but 5 out of 42 ain't enough to make a difference!  I'm not coaching but our coach is a good one, he just doesn't have the personal to get the job done right unfortunately. Good luck to you!

42 on a kid team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  How many kids in the league from your community?  We have 210 this season and started with 230 which either number is the most we have ever had playing here.  Our biggest team has 34 players on it and that is our 130# team (6th grade).  Down here we try to split into two teams.  We had 53 kids sign up in our 105# age group (4th grade) in our community and we split into teams of 26 and 27 kids each.

Most of the ones on the team of 26 were the ones that won the championship last year and we played the other team last night.  We won 20-6 but it wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination.

We also start playing school football in the 7th grade down here and our age groups all in this area don't play youth football past age 12 or just turning 13.  By the time they are 13 they are going on to school football in the 7th grade.
