I have given this alot of thought, and talked to alot of people about it also, and most of them agree with me, anyway here it is.
I've noticed that alot of times, ill be flying along, and ill see someone high behind me, so i will do evasives, and sometimes they'll end up running into the back of my plane, and it says ive collided with them (same thing with being vulched sometimes).
Ao i was thinking maybe the guys at HTC, could try making it to where, if to planes hit eachother, they both take EXTREME damage, so hopefully maybe we wont get so many collision.    
Although, id like to hear what other people have to say about this.

Every so often a thread like this pops up... if you do a search on the BBS you'll find a ton of them with the explanation of why the collision model is the way it is.

Do a search on the Aces High Con for 2006, there was a great Audio of HT explaining the collision model... I've never wondered about it since I listened to that description...

Suffice to say that the way things look on your screen are never the way they look on the other guy's screen because the internet has lag.

Basically, you can imagine your airplane being about 50 yards behind its true position (give or take for lag)... If the bogey happens to collide with that spot (which is where you are on his screen) then you might see a guy d50 behind you cause a collision.

There is a heck of a lot more to it... Find the audio... But thats the baskin robins vanilla explaination.

The end result of this would be:  you are cruising along, u check your nearest enemy to be 500 yards away, and then BLAM! Your wing falls off cause on HIS desktop HE only saw you as 100 yards away and HE managed to hit you, whilst on YOUR end, YOU were 300yards away from HIM.

I used to have formation fights in frank3's H2H arenas. I remember talking about this and discussing what distance we saw each other as......I remember seeing him as 098 yards (this is back in the days of the laser counter) whilst he saw me at 300. Such deviations arose when we were both playing from Europe. Now imagine a more global mix and you have a real NIGHTMARE.

I think theyve done the best of a bad job. If YOU see a collision, YOU take the damage.
