"Willy got one plane right.  The rest were studies in mediocrity."

Well, I agree with you on the Bf 110, it was superb once he fixed the bugs. But you're being much too harsh on the Bf 109. It was Germany's front-line fighter throughout WW2, and quite a few people like to fly it in Aces High. Also, the Me 262 was successful, at least in its own terms.

(pause)

Yes, I know.

Bf 108
Bf 109
Bf 110
Me 209
Me 262
Me 321
Me 323
Me 410

All very successful planes. The Me 209's 1939 speed record stood for 30 years before being broken by a race modified F8F. The most produced fighter ever. The fighter that destroyed the most enemy planes ever. The first jet fighter. The first rocket plane/fighter. The largest transport glider of the war. The largest transport plane of the war.

Today Airbus is part Messerschmitt.

Only because Heinkel with its modded production He100 was not allowed another attempt after the specially designed 209 beat the Heinkel's speed.

Only because no one attempted to best the 209s speed for 30 years with a prop a/c.
