The big wishlist
« on: March 30, 2007, 01:40:28 PM »
There's been a number of wishes put up here, and most of them require a lot of brand new work..
I'm linking these because they're either very simple to add, or if they're not, to try and give others ideas for more new wishlist worthy ideas..
Note that some of them are probably bad ideas given the changes AH has gotten since they were asked for, and that some of them have already made it; some of these because they were put up in these sorts of threads :)

Last minute wish-list for AH2

I guess I'll make it easier to read and list all the items that still apply:

Damage
-Troops and cargo added to the damage list.
-No more box Flak :)  We oughta be able to swerve away from flak when doing 400mph, a few K's away from the flak guns.
-Disable guns (as bombers' defensive ones are locked when on the ground) when trigger is pulled inside another vehicle, unless drive-thru pilot/driver kills are an intentional feature..  Definitely keep Enemy tank-plane collision damage if it's there though :D
-Separate wounds for pilots and gunners. (I don't know if this has been implemented yet)
-Quicker damage to the pilot while one fire, instead of nothing until sudden death..

Information
-Separate color for intermediately damaged items in the damage list.
-Additional planetype+name in the (friendly) iconmode cycle, and more CM options for friendly icon ranges.
-That promised post-flight .txt statistic summary.
-More telemetry in the film viewer, like AoA, etc.
-A way to plot waypoints on the cb map outside of missions, for personal notes, own navigation, or predicting vectors based on dar dots movement, for example.
-An ETA (or ETRepair) counter for damaged field strat;  this is a gameplay decision, so I don't know how it fits with Hitech & co's vision for the game.

Controls
-Customisable (notepad) combat trim.
-Tank turret rotation control from driver's seat, by the rudder?  If not a complete map to rudders when in another position, 4 or 8 buttons to order tank turrets to turn to cardinal positions.
-Independent track control on tanks that had it for turning in place: Click for info
-Rocket convergence.
-A way to set separate salvo values
-A button to salvo everything.
-A button to lock/unlock the clipboard map's zoom and/or pan.

Visuals/stuff
-No fluid leak trail when the damaged tank is empty, and/or trails proportional to their respective leak.
-Historical tracer colors, or a choice from them, if that doesn't offend anyone's sense of historical accuracy.
-Tracer shell and and quantity/placement in the chosen ammo belts.
-Exhaust smoke when engines are firewalled.
-CM option for no icons forced.. I've never been part of the CM team, so I don't know if they've ever discussed and concluded it would never be used, or heard from someone at HTC that it never should.
-More shaking (as per credible comments such as Widewing's) in the bomber gunner positions.
-Smoke for the Tiger and PT boat?
-Obscured cockpit vision when single engined fighters get their engine set alight.
-Rockets display 1:1 on the wings, unless that's like the runway craters server-side issue.
-When planning a mission, skins were made available so missions dont have to be flown with the defaults.
-Impacts visible on GVs?  Seems like they ought to have gotten this when planes did.. Surely, 35mm+ of HE leaves a mark? :)  Or maybe this was left out because other player's vehicles don't ever show their bullethole-type damage (too expensive for bandwidth), making the idea pointless on your own GV since we never get external sight of it.
-We shouldn't be getting scrap collisions when straffing and hitting only the targeted GV, and not throwing up dirt etc, should we?
-Tinted reticules for the planes that had them.
-Jet engine flame sprites :)
-Has the magnetic compass in planes been changed to rotate the right direction yet?  I don't know, but AH1 used to have an accurately modeled night sky, so this oughta be worth doing.
-Turbulence?  I don't know how simple this is to model.
-Separate external turret gun sounds for separate GVs, e.g. a Tiger 88 should sound different from a T34 or Panzer, or Firefly.. I haven't had enough time around GVs to know if this is modeled already.

Loadouts
-Perked extra goon loads, they could carry 20 troops, I heard, it'd make it worth the try to drop into hostile territory.
-An option to leave the loadouts on the mission flights unlocked, so you don't have to make multiples of the same flights just to vary the loadouts.
-A choice of different ammunition types for the planes that had them, as we have for amounts of ammo for a same gun now, e.g. AP/HE for the NS37, AP/HE/other historical variations of each for other guns, etc.
-More ordnance types for the planes that had much more of them than we have, like Pzblitz or SMuzic for the LW, NS-37 for the Il2... the 190F could carry a big ~1800kg bomb, couldn't it?
-Yak9UT: Click for info
-Yak9M and/or D was a 9T with a 20mm instead of the 37mm, wasn't it?
-More types of naval task groups.
-Mossie ejector exhausts

That's it! :)
There were over a dozen items found in the original wishlists implemented by HTC.. thanks! :D

* More strat targets for buff and attack drivers that effect strategic part of game:  railroads, destructible bridges, communications centers, marshaling yards, more shipping to destroy (drone convoy, maybe with DD escort) with anti-shipping operations.

* Add German 88mm FlaK36 to game: Indirect artillery, long range direct fire weapon, and manned puffy ack up to 35K altitude for players to defend against high bombers.

* For AHIII - ARMIES - some way to add front line units into the game.  Maybe "Armies" much like we have Naval Task Forces now?  Can spawn GV's from their midst.  Much more bombing and strafing needed to kill an Army off.  Offensive (more aggressive) and Defensive (more defensive) stance.   Or maybe just a variable front line that adjusts on the map according to who holds which fields.  Provides points for more GV action, maybe, or at least targets for attack planes.  Plus additional eye candy.  Arty fire.  AAA fire. Would work especially well with Eastern Front SEA events as well.

* For AHII - TERRAIN TILES - the excellent terrain tiles found in the SEA maps used in war arenas (not happening with AHII dial-up support I know).  The airfields, cities, and other terrain in those maps are very nice.  Loved some of the things I found flying around the map of Japan.

* More maps.

* Some fix to weak CV's.  No one provides CV with CAP, hence very weak units.  Additional CA?  Add a CVL (Jeep Carrier) to group?  Damage control parties to repair damage at a reasonable pace between hits?

- Rocket convergence is physically impossible for the rockets in AH.

+ Some way to manually set the auto-fuel tank selector's choices.

That would be neat, but probably a resource hog for the servers.

One thing I liked in Falcon 4.0 campaigns was flying over the FEB and seeing the artillery and armor duels down below.

More of a throughput issue than a resource issue, IMHO.  Most of the processing and of course graphics work for something like the "armies" could probably be done client-side.  Server side could just be location, strength, and general actions of the army in question.

Why I listed "AH-3" --- if HTC follows the trend of online gaming, and if there is an AHIII ("if....if is good..."), then AHIII would probably not support dial up connections.

By going to broadband-only support, you increase the amount of information being exchanged between clients and servers.  With server farms and blade servers available, I doubt server resources would be a big deal.... the next bottleneck may be the throughput and resources at the client.   Ergo, how much of the "front line battle" a player sees in-game is based on the settings on the client.

"-CM option for no icons forced.. I've never been part of the CM team, so I don't know if they've ever discussed and concluded it would never be used, or heard from someone at HTC that it never should. "

Only our Brewster wish is older than this one...

I just guessing the HTC's reasons to skip this request so long. Maybe it is a  very-very small but way too over loud 'Realism is the way' fanatics crow.

IMHO
The MA should always has a 'long icons' but for the SEA, HTC should give this 'No Icons (at leats enemy) hosting option.
