Karaya!
« on: April 03, 2007, 12:03:27 PM »
Hey Bud just wrote a letter to the President of the R&R Hall of Fame.  Topic was the Funk Brothers.  Letter explained the reasons I felt they deserved to be in the Hall .....well you know the reason don't have to explain it to you.

Anyway the Hall has a category for sidemen also.  I know James Jamerson was just elected and just found out Benny Benjamin was also.

Karaya the suprise was that I got a response from the Pres of the Foundation two days later!  I was floored to say the least.  He explained my choice was a very good one and then explained the criteria.  Criteria is the same as other Hall of Fames.  Opinion etc.  Time really has no meaning and so on.

I do hope though that my letter did pass through someone elses hands that took a look at the main reason now would be great is because they are leaving us fast.  Joe Hunter and Pistol Allen most recently.  Sure would be great to see them recognized before all of them are gone.

I kept the letter from the Hall.  Still in disbelief.

They will never be equalled.   If they do have a Tour, I'll join ya.    I may send a letter as well, send me the info and I'll follow up your inquiry with another.

"The Hook" is probably the Greatest Bass Player in Recorded History.

Like I told you last time we talked, "The Funk Machine" is still out there somewhere waiting to be found.    It is the 1962 Fender Precision Bass that was stolen right before his death.   Inscribed on the bottom of the neck is:  "The Funk Machine".

Haj, I emplore you to make a short trip up here on a weekend and I will accompany you to Hitsville USA.   You'd love it.    You can go into the "Snakepit".    Like I told you, I was only 22 when I went there and was asked if I could help out there (I knew more about the place and people, than the gentleman working there).   I left him with a legal pad page full of things to help them out.   It is a magical place.

I am on vacation the last week of June and the first week of July.  Maybe you Shamus and I can meet.  When I come I have to got to Hitsville.  To much history to miss.

I do hope Jamersons Precision Pro is found and placed in the Rock and Roll Museum.  His Son plays the Bass.  Would be great to have him present it to the Museum.

First week of July works best for me, and I'd get the first round.   Mark it down in ink.  Lemme know.
