The F-82 was the last propeller-driven fighter acquired in quantity by the USAF. It appears to be two Mustang fuselages on one wing, but in reality it was a totally new design. Its purpose was to provide a fighter carrying a pilot and co-pilot/navigator to reduce fatigue on long-range bomber ecsort missions. Delivery from production did not begin until early 1946, too late for WW II. After WW II, radar-equipped F-82s were used quite extensively by the Air Defense Command as replacements for the P-61 night fighter. During the Korean Conflict, Japan-based F-82s were among the first USAF aircraft to operate over Korea. The first three North Korean airplanes destroyed by U.S. forces were shot down by all-weather F-82G interceptors on June 27, 1950.

Maybe if we ever get an "Aces High: Korea" we could get one, idk, might be neat, i wonder if they would let another player join as the co-pilot.

also your link no worky

It's been a while, but I don't think the twin mustang had dual flight
controls.

It was designed to be a bomber escort for intercontinental bombers.  Two pilots, two controls so one pilot can rest while the other flies.

I think it would be a GREAT target...er...addition.  While we're at it let's add the F7F, F8F, and F2G-1.  Heck, I have a DOCUMENTARY that shows F14s dogfighting A6M2s over the pacific, so they obviously saw combat in WWII.  Senator Charles Durning did, after all, disappear about that time.

Speaking of WWII and Charles Durning, he was one of the people who been there and done that.  I suspect he would have some very interesting stories to tell if you could get him to tell them.

Actually we're both right...the escort version had two cockpits, the
night fighter version deleted the second cockpit for the radar operator.
Since my old unit flew the night fighter version, naturally I assumed that
was the correct config :)
