Do you mean the LCD on the laptop itself is cracked/bad? You might only be able to replace that through Toshiba. I've known a guy that had a similar problem on another brand. Not sure how costly it was, but wouldn't expect it to be cheap.

If she can, perhaps just get an external LCD and plug it into the back of the laptop for now. The only problem is that only works if she's working on it by the LCD. If she needs it to go mobile then she's in trouble.

I haven't checked into this really, but I do recall some aftermarket manufacturers offering replacement screens for laptops.  As in you can buy the screen yourself and install it replacing the broken one.  I have no idea how difficult it is to do or the price/availability per model.  Otherwise the external monitor may be the only option for $ reasons.

What happened was they was over in the gulf and she is on a destroyer,  well the ship took a rogue wave and rolled  pretty bad and the laptop was on her bunk and she was getting ready to put it away,  well the top rack fell and landed on top or her laptop.  Did not crack the case or nothing like that but the screen it self is toast.  I saw it when she was just home and it looks like a cracked windshield the LCD display is toast.  Thanks and we will do some more research on this

See now if she was home being a good housewif like she shoulda been instead of out doing mans work
she wouldnt have this problem. LOL

Im just kidding.
Tell her I said thanks for serving

Did you look here?
Dont know what model/size your looking for but

Did a quick lookaround here and spotted a couple that were "Slightly blemished" but with a warranty for around $200 or less.

http://www.lcds4less.com/

Now what they mean by "slightly blemished" I dont know. but if its still carrying a warranty it cant be totally terrible.
