Compaq Laptop Windows XP Dual Monitor/Projector Help!
« on: July 26, 2007, 10:22:51 AM »
My father in law is giving a speech tonight; I want to run slides on a PowerPoint to accompany his speech.
I’ve borrowed an old Compaq laptop (Evo N1015v) running XP and a VeiwSonic (PJ750) projector.  My problem is that the laptop runs the projector as a dual monitor no matter what I do.  The projected image does not match the laptop’s screen.  It only shows a desktop background with no programs, icons, mouse, etc.  I want them both to show exactly the same thing.  The projected image is nearly worthless as I don’t seem to have any control over it.

If I right-click > display > properties,
I get a window that says, “Drag the monitor icons to match the physical arrangement of your monitors”. And below is a box with monitors 1 & 2.  I think it thinks that I want dual monitors
I’ve dragged them around, swapped, dropped on top of each other.  I’ve checked and unchecked every option, played with all of the advanced settings.

The primary issue is that I don’t see any choice to have the projector show the same thing as the screen; it just assumes that I must want a dual monitor mode.

Windows help is retarded, as always.

Negitive, on that model of laptop you have a function key.

It should be blue. First make sure the check box is unchecked for the monitor to extend the monitor. If it doesnt reboot without it plugged in, and go into propterties reconnect, and dont follow the damn wizzards.

Then Once plugged in hit Function + F3 or F4 it will show a little monitor icon. I believe that model is F4 not sure though one of the two it is it will have a box wihin a box symbol.

The first time you hit it, you should see the laptop go to the monitor, and blank the laptop. the next time you hit it, it should be dual. Both displays showing the same desktop. The next time you hit it back to laptop. There will be a slight performance decrease but for what yoir doing i dont htink it will matter.

Cheers
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Thanks,

I did try function + F3 and all of the other F keys just for good measure.  On your recommendation I think I’ll fire it back up and try it again...

Laptop is starting up.

I just plugged the projector into my PC; it works fine.  I’ll just take my PC if the laptop won’t cooperate.

Now it won’t detect any input whatsoever.  This laptop is retarded.
