Plugged in a throttle quadrant tonight. Tried to get it mapped how I like it.

Still figuring out exactly "how" I like it, but I found an annoying bug.


If you map it for throttles 1,2,3,4, you won't have any problems. If you only map it for engines 1,2 (say, for twin engine fighters, but you take off in a bomber) one throttle will control one engine, but the other throttle will control all 3 remaining engines.

Thinking that it just maps them "from this point on" I tried mapping throttle 1 and throttle 3, (hoping that throttle 1 would control 1 and 2, then when throttle 3 was found it would map 3 and 4).

It didn't work, but that wouldn't have mattered because it would have screwed me when flying a twin engined plane.


Can you code it so that, if TWO throttles are mapped, it takes both left engines for 1, and both right engines for 2, on 4-engine bombers? That would greatly simplify things!

Yes, I have an AV8R and when I try to use 1 throttle it only controls 1 engine.

Maybe you have to map throttle2 to "throttle 2"?

It won't map that automatically. Mine works fine with twin engined planes so far.


I still haven't got the hang of prop-induced hammerheads, though.

Have you tried different modes?

Mode 1 - Single Engine - Map throttle to throttle 1
Mode 2 - GVs - How you like
Mode 3 - Twin Engine - Map throttles to throttles 1 & 2
Mode 4 - Quad Engine - Map throttles to 1,2,3 &4

Or manually mapping 1 & 2 on one throttle and 3 & 4 on another?

Unless something's changed I know that 1 & 4 and 2 & 3 work, I've experimented with that in the past. Be sure to manually assign all 4 engines. Assigning one or two, doesn't work.

You can't map more than one analog control to one axis. You used to be able to, but when they redid the controls setup that stopped.

I think what it was doing was mapping the "unmapped" engines to the first throttle. You had throttle 1 controlling engine one, throttle 2 controlling engine 2, but because 3/4 were unmapped they both went to throttle 1 as well!


And the problem is with 4 engine bombers, #1 and #2 are on the same side (left) and #3, #4 on the same side (right) but you move to a twin engine and all of a sudden you're back to a single throttle (#1, #2, both mapped to throttle1)

It's a strange system, that this game has.

Yeah you're right...and I was one of those that complained about that. BOY is my mind going with old age. :)

I'm trying to picture this...

Throttle Quadrant 1 - Engine 1
Throttle Quadrant 2 - Engine 2
Throttle Quadrant 3 - Engine 3
Throttle Quadrant 4 - Engine 4

Doesn't fit your needs because bomber engines 1 & 2 are on the same side. I understand that part.

But I don't see the problem with using one of the switches on the quad to change to one of the 4 available control modes in the game. And since you can have different assignments for each mode, rearranging the mapping to suit your wants. Something like....

Mode 1- Fighter Mode
Throttle Quadrant 1 - Map to Engine 1
Throttle Quadrant 2 - Map to Engine 2

Mode 2- GV Mode

Mode 3 - Bomber Mode
Throttle Quadrant 1 - Engine 1
Throttle Quadrant 2 - Engine 4
Throttle Quadrant 3 - Engine 2
Throttle Quadrant 4 - Engine 3

Mode 3 now solves your problem of the engines being on the same side and Mode 1 maps correctly for a twin engine or single engine plane.

Am I missing something here?

No, no, I can totally se using a mode switch. I'm planning on that anyways. Only, I was hoping to keep the same throttle setup. If you go from 2 to 4, (and vice versa) it's more of a hassle. More of a confusion with how you learn to use the throttles. All of a sudden instead of adjusting throttle1 you're messing your elevator trim up (or whatever).

Now I've got ya!

You want to use 2 axis for the throttle and the other 4 for something else.

on the ch quadrant i have at home, I have the first four left to right set as throttle for engines 1-4. then on the last 2 I have those set RPM for engines 1 and 2, since in a 4 engine bomber, I rarely use rpm. I guess I could program the 2 toggle switches below the last 2 sliders (my rpm)to engines 3 &4 respectively.

Toggling the controls to different analogs is tricky. You toggle it and your settings "jump" to what the throttle arm is set to. You can't keep in control if they jump up or down every time you switch. That's why I wanted to use 2 throttles for 4-engine bombers (to avoid the jump)
