neubob... what do I think of stay at home fathers?    I have no idea.

I raised a daughter by myself for a while and did a really crappy job of it... I am helping to raise my grand daughter at this point.  I have never stayed home to do it.

I am not sure that if  the woman is working tho that it is a very good example for the child to see the man stay home and do the raising while the woman works.

I have no strong opinions on it other than it seems wrong and I suspect the man who does it... there is something wrong with him if he does it willingly.

I guess I should have clarified...

A man that volunteers to do it, and does it eagerly.

Women TRADITIONALLY bear the brunt of the child's mental and emotional development because it is they who usually are the stay-home parent.

Nowadays that neither parents are home most of the time its become a triumvirate of parents and peers (including school) that define the child's enviroment.

I've always believed that stay-home married parents should receive a salary from the government. Even if its minimal wage. To prevent abuse i said married parent.. otherwise we'd have a whole bunch of single parents staying home and leeching the treasury.

neubob.. sorry.. I thought I did answer your question.   If there is a woman in the house then it is a bad idea for the man to stay home and do the raising except under extreme circumsantces.

extreme would not be that the woman makes 90k a year and the man only makes 40k tho.

My brother just retired after 40 some odd years.
Now his wife has went into high gear to change her career, so to speak.
She has applied and got the job of head of human resources for a hospital, starting at 80K a year.
It sort of seems like she thinks she has a chance to become the man of the house. :)
Her new line is " I will still be bringing in the bacon". Phfffffffftttttt! She had nothing when she met my brother. She has spent more than she has ever made, contributing very, very little to the househod as far as expenses, etc. goes. Strange.

Me and brother are going to do a lot of fishing. :D

well... first I would tell her that I didn't want her money and would be more than happy to have separate accounts and that if she didn't like that then she should not let the door hit her backside on the way out.

I would also tell her... "BTW, no charge for me supporting you all those years before being worthless was ok so long as they needed a woman to meet affirmative action demands."
