I would like to see the clipboard modeled out of a material that will actually block the sun. I am not a pilot, or software engineer. I don't pretend to know about climb rates, frame rates, yo-yo's or Immelmans. But I do own an actual clipboard. I decided to check my clipboard's light blocking properties and I determined that it blocks the sun rather nicely. I thought that I would give the game designers the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps the clipboards from WWII were made of a thin, transparent material that would not cast a shadow. Perhaps all of the clipboards in WWII were converted to Mossie wings. Maybe the game designers had known this and spent hours working on a clipboard that exactly matched the light blocking properties of the clipboards that brought an end to Hitler's plans for world domination.
So I did some research of my own. I purchased (at great expense) an actual WWII era vintage clipboard.
After extensive testing, in all weather conditions I have determined that it will cast a shadow. Also, when held at arms length in a position between my eyes and the sun, the clipboard will shade my eyes. The WWII clipboard seems to have the same light blocking properties that a piece of the canopy frame has in the game. I was also able to get my hands on a WWII era training photo that seems to suggest that they were aware of the light blocking potential of the clipboard at the time.
I guess that the possibility still exists that these special clipboards were very rare due to war time shortages. Maybe the light blocking clipboard could be perked.
