To the Joystick guys; X52 pot replacement
« on: September 23, 2007, 06:45:14 PM »
My X52's twist rudder pot is completely dead to the left side. Being into the "take it apart, fix it yourself, and learn" side of things, I'd like to have a go at fixing it myself instead of just shipping it off to Saitek.

Minor detail though; I can't afford a new Joystick. :D

If anybody has pictures or instructions on replacing this pot I'd appreciate it. My slider's a bit wonky too, but one at a time. :p I haven't found any via Google, but I've seen some avid Joystick guys in here.

Optical sensors for the X and Y axis- AFAIK, the twist is still a pot.
Mine just flaked out as well. Not sure if I'll have to bag this one, or tear it apart, fix the damned squeak, and replace the pot.

Saitek will apparently replace them for you with little hassle, I just want to DIY it.

That minimal hassle also requires me to ship it to them, and be without a stick until such time as they repair it, and send it back. I don't like that part much, which is why I've done my own repairs in the past.

In today's world, that's a compliment.

OOZ, you may want to perform exploratory surgery just to get an idea of what you're up against.  If it is a pot, see if you can get a part number off of it, or at least ohm it out to get the total resistance.  Then go to http://dkc1.digikey.com/US/EN/PDF/T073/P5.html and check out the listings of potentiometers.  You will likely find a replacement there.

Then again, you could email support@saitekusa.com and ask them how much it will cost to buy one.  The worst that could happen is they may say no.

Wondering if anybody's gone more in-depth on this? My pot's still as dead as it used to be.

In reply to the post above, I hate doing exploration in Saiteks...they always have a tiny essential wire running from the top to a tiny chip on the bottom so when you pull it apart, it bites it. Many thanks for the website though.

Go to the forums in Saitek's website.. the customer support there is outstanding!

I'd be willing to bet that if you asked, they'd probably just send you one.  I've seen them ship out for free small parts such as switch assemblies, springs, etc...

If nothing else they might sell you one cheap.  Look for the guy, "UKSupport".. he seems to be the one running things on the message boards for Saitek.
