Well, this has been settled, but just in case anybody searches for it in the future, I believe Hitech said AH doesn't penalize the pilot with things like random gun jams and whatnot. The point is not to take away features, but to give them. In the long run, penalizing players hurts a game a lot more than having "perfect maintainence"

We need observer effect modeled, because dangit it's realistic!

I think that Aces High needs to implement a system where a certian percentage of vehicles simply break down, shut off, or explode with no reason, are random times.

Disagree.

While mechanical failures were very common in RL, people playing a video game do not want their success or failure to be determined by something they can not control.

Seriously now, this will add to realism.

All machines fail. Due either to poor construction, poor design, or poor maintenance, machines can and will break down.

I think that Aces High needs to implement a system where a certian percentage of vehicles simply break down, shut off, or explode with no reason, are random times.

You're flying along, admiring the lines of the 262 you just picked up, and all the sudden, you're back at base. Your later squadmates inform you that you just exploded.

For bomb-laden aircraft, this can include the spontaneous detonation of munitions.

This is an amazing idea.

AW had this.  If the base you took off from had the maintenance hanger porked or destroyed, there was a random chance that you would spawn a plane with some sort of mechanical problem such as a bad engine, leaking oil.  But it used a randomizer and that is something HiTech has already said he will not use in this game.

Hmm, seems every time someone puts a bullet in my plane it develops a spontaneous mechanical and/or hydraulic failure. I need to post film I guess.  :D

Just kidding, sheesh...  :salute

Neubob, I think the gremlins were a better idea. Not a good idea, but a better idea than this one.

I agree completely.  Even though I have no real knowledge on the subject.

and its a no from me. I really like the gun jams you get in Americas Army - adds tension and realism, but then theres usually some cover while you unjam the weapon, not something we get in the air.
