Issue with graphics
« on: July 03, 2008, 10:56:10 PM »
My son-in-law wants to play Aces High. He downloaded the game and began flying offline. I had stopped by and he showed me his set-up. X52, 19" flat screen.. His computer is adequate. He has an ASUS MB, running an Intel 2.0 gig dual core processor, with 2 gigs of RAM. His video card is an EVGA Nvidia 8400 GS, with 512 megs of DDR RAM. Yet, he has a problem...

Once airborne, as he passes 500 feet, all ground detail disappears. Individual trees vanish. Ground vehicles vanish. I logged onto the game using my account and found that it was impossible to see ground vehicles until right on top of them. When low enough, the system finally renders the ground details and vehicles. No issues seeing airplanes, just ground detail.

Another symptom is when diving to the deck, all of a sudden the trees render and it's easy to plow into them.

I've played with the graphic sliders in the game. Regardless if I set max detail or max performance, the problem is unchanged.

Perhaps someone has had a similar problem and discovered the solution. I'm at a loss. The guy wants to play, but he would be severely handicapped with this problem.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Widewing

Well after reading what Baldegle said in another forum I would try a driver update and/or a bios update. It fixed another gamer's computer.

It has the latest drivers... BIOS is up to date as well. My first thought was drivers, but I checked Nvidia's site and his drivers are current.

Sounds like he changed view modes and he's in ground view.

I did it the first time I played.  Tried a GV for the first time and someone told me to change view modes.  Took me a week to figure out why all the terrain dissapeared when I'd takeoff in a plane.  I hit alot of trees that week.   :lol

Now I'm starting over and still hitting trees.  But this time due to pure incompetence and not because my view mode is set wrong.  Although that makes a good excuse.  Yeah......

Well, I found several problems... The 8400GS was set for max performance.. I reset to default (balanced) and forced vertical sync. Adjusting the in-game sliders gave an adequate frame rate (about 35 worst case in smoke with multiple aircraft near). I switched to max visual range, he had it at Shift/F2 (medium). Still, ground vehicles render rather poorly compared to my 8800GT, but should be adequate.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions.
