What was the designation for the P-2 NEPTUNE Drone Carrier? DP-2?

Acording to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-2_Neptune) it was designated P2V-5FD (DP-2E): A P2V-5F with target towing or drone launch capability, various defensive equipment and all weaponry deleted.

Here is a neat Post-War shot - a LANCASTER Mk.10DC Drone Carrier of the RCAF with early model FIREBEE Drones.

BTY Pops....Great pics. What was the designation for the P-2 NEPTUNE Drone Carrier? DP-2?

Cool pic Jester. That's a really old Firebee.

If I am not mistaken, that is one of the ORIGINAL batch of Q-2A FIREBEE drones from the early 1950's. You can tell, thought it is hard to see in the pic, but the horizontal tails on that model had the arrowhead shaped ends.

Always been a big fan of Drones & RPV's - would love to build my own if I had the money. With my luck it would probabily start something like the "BATTLE OF PALMDALE" like in the above post.   :D

Thanks for the word Denniss.   :aok  I knew about the designation P2V-5FD but didn't know if the Navy used the "D" desigination on the front of P-2 like they did with the DC-130 HERCULES Drone Carrier.
