AVA arena
« on: July 30, 2008, 09:08:22 AM »
me and the gang were in the AVA last night. ive been noticing alot of new people in there and thats just terrific. id like to see it grow a bit. anyway as im taking off, i notice one of the green guys warping like crazy. so i politely call him on range and tell him he's warping like mad.

the reply was immediate and swift: i was told that he's not stupid and that i shouldnt call him stupid, and that he's been playing for 9 months and knows what he's doing!!

i again reply that im not calling him stupid but rather, im letting him know hes warping. again im told that again hes not stupid, he knows what he's doing and that he's been playing for 9 months.

mind you im all for new people in the arena, but it would be nice if they checked the attitudes at the door. yes i know, there will some retort for that last comment. the point is the little zipcode was a squeaker. ill not reveal his name but there were plenty of people that witnessed the whole thing.

i certainly hope this isnt a sign for things to come. it was a fun night last night and excluding the little incident with the zipcode, it was a good time. just thought id toss that out.

:lol I've noticed a number of newbies in the AvA lately myself, although I don't know that I've communicated with them. I have im,d some that look new on the roster. If I see someone with a ranking of 0 on the roster and they're logged in as a rook, I let them know they need to switch to either bishop or knight to up in this particular arena. Sometimes they do switch. Sometimes they just stay a rook and then log out.

Some of the newbie know-it-alls can be fun. I know once in either the MW or LW arenas there were a number of newbies playing one day. One of them sent out a call on the country channel asking what targets he should try to hit on an airfield. One other newbie comes back with: " The runways. Bomb the runways and they can't take off...".

Myself and others tried to explain to newbie #2 bombing the runways won't do anything in this game but the newb insisted even when what seemed to be a friend of his told him that he should take advice of the guys who have played the game a lot longer than he had.

He must of finally taken heed and realized the futility of bombing runways. Maybe 45 minutes after the original exchange he sent out a vox message something like, "I stalked that plane for a long time...". I replied, "Dont' bother trying to stalk those guys. Bomb their runways!". He replied: "SHUT UP!".

Hey, I'm trying to help and he chews my head off?

fun is telling them, after they dont drop enough troops to take a base, that they have to drop supplies for the troops to eat before they will run, and the newbies come back with suppies!!

is a true story and probably one of the funniest things ive ever seen!  :)

Jaeger,

If I were you, I'd wrather worry about the behaviour of some oldies in this arena, not the newbies...

Whats the humor about deceiving someone who is trying to learn the game? When you first logged onto the game you never had a question?

we actually told them they didnt drop enough troops and they told us we didnt know what we were talking about. We in the sense of me and the other people at that particular base. so when they wouldnt listen to reason, i told them they needed to feed the troups and that they believed. its not my fault that they are somewhere near the bottom of the darwinian scale!

And in the case I mentioned, the guy insisted bombing runways was the thing to do in spite of everybody telling him differently.

I don't think most players mind helping out the newbies, except for those that come in for the first time and their first question is something as simple as "How do I start my airplane?". That can be a bit much and I've seen happen now and again.
