Seeing stuff late
« on: July 27, 2008, 04:02:55 AM »
I have had this over some some time and over several computers so it must be something I do in set up. I have mentioned it here before.

Its quite clear I see some events later than other folk on my screen (if not my FE) and when I say later I mean several seconds later.

Last night in Rangoon Beta was very typical.

My wingman flying right behind me was calling a sighting of massed dots (aircraft dots) at our 11 o clock for several seconds

I was looking exactly where he was indicating and seeing nothing until (without moving my head position) dots slowly started to come in view dead centre screen. By this time folk well separated and further from said dots than I had been also advising the sighting for some time.

Exactly the same thing happened later when we approached dots to our 12 o clock.

I have always suufferred the phenomenum of seeing long distance stuff later than those around me or at least have noted it many times.

How could this be?

I'm just guessing but it sounds like you have your AH preferences/video/distance set shorter than those who were seeing them first.

All the Best...

A number of things can cause this.

The overall problem is slow updates.  This can be caused by the client computer, or the Internet connection, or both.  If your computer is resource starved it is going to be slow about adding new resources such as a new item that has come into view.  This same issue can incorrectly point to a potential issue with the Internet connection.

However, the Internet connection can also come into play.  If the upload rate is such that the data simply cannot be sent fast enough (for whatever reason, and there can be many), then things will simpy slowly appear.

The server can be a factor, but it would effect everyone equally.
