set up shot tutorial (for cooler videos)
« on: September 09, 2008, 03:45:57 AM »
I posted this a while ago but nobody really seemed to care. But lately I've seen some people asking how to do this so I remade the tutorial on how to do it. This will explain the steps once you've chosen the video you want to use.

Click "set up camera shot"

Than click "new shot"

Now, back to the original video. Move the sliders top and right side until you're satisfied by the angle.

Than click "grab all" this will save the angle that you have chosen.

Back to the video. Ok now top left corner click the play button. Now let the video play until you're passed the section that you want to film. which could be 1 second long or 1 hour doesn't matter you're choice. Like you're about to merge, and you want to film when you are coming at the guy until you've passed him and starting you're move.

Now click the pause button.

While the video is still paused move the sliders again to another position, until you're happy with the angle. Once you have used this technique to make you're movies you will see what angles look cool and what kind of angles to use for certain situations.

Ok, now click "grab all". as you see on the "set up camera shots" tab there is two things "starting camera" and "ending camera" obviously this time you will be using "ending camera" because you have already set your starting camera. I know some of you are like "duh" but i just want to make sure  ;)

Alright! that's it just click "play shot" and you will see your video play. it will play from start to finish with the camera moving from the one angle you set to the other angle.

Ok, you know how to use it now so here is another thing you can do with it

Before, as explained above you were using "world relative" under "shot type" but if you want to make it look like the pilot is moving his head. And with a tad bit of practice you can link together different films of these movements to make a realistic looking film. So here's how to do it

Now, see where it says shot type, click on it and set it from "world relative" to "plane relative"

Make sure on the film it is set to Internal View

Note: video is paused.
I have moved the sliders to look at the con on the left.

starting camera "grab all"

So click "play" let the video play for a second or two, than click "pause"

My plan is to make it look like the pilot is looking at the con on the left (p-51) than move his head to look at the con on the right (hurricane). So now I have moved the sliders (while the video is still paused) to look at the hurricane.

Back to this. Ending camera "grab all"

Now click "play shot"

One more thing about what I just explained that might help is to make the head movement faster.
You can do this by editing the ending camera settings

I went from a "grab duration" of 3.221

And changed it to 1.211 which changed it from 3 seconds to 1 second, hence a shorter time to do the movement so it is quicker.

Thanks for reading!! I hope this helps. comment if you still have any questions
