Question about TrackIR
« on: October 23, 2008, 10:17:40 PM »
From the research I did, it doesn't seem to come with it's own set of head screens. So what, do we have to buy our own, or does it come with it?

TrackIR is a system by which you turn your head and the monitor view changes perspective to match your view. There are clips added to the visor of your ballcap or emitters that clip to your headphone that allow the tracker to follow your head motion. You dont have to move your head very far to see completely behind you. It is not a clipon monitor.

What you want is a Virtually Reality headset, something like a VR920.

See here on using VR with AH: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Virtual_Reality

Something like the VR920 is a good start, and has an RRP of US$399 which is a fairly cheap way into VR. It can be used with other games such as FS X, Armed Assault, LOMAC, the Wings over series etc.

Ehmmm no.

TrackIR is just a controller. Instead of using keyboard or joystick hat, you just use your head to move your views on screen.

The tracker unit is a controller like Lusche said. Instead of moving your thumb to the left on your hat switch, you instead just move your head a bit to the left and the view on the screen will change to the left view. Some people find it very immersive and easier to use than the hat switch on your stick.

I'd really find it better to use a VR headset, so I'm not looking out of the corner of my eye to see my six o' clock, or on the other extreme, not having a super sensitive view pan.

I use TrackIR and I dont look from the corner of my eye and the tracker is not super sensitive. Its very intuitive after a short period of use.
