Monitor Shopping

Recently bought a new Dell XPS720 optimized..
With the help of fellow AH'ers, Baldeagle, Getback,
Boilerdown, and others, on component selection,  it ROCKS...
Colors are vivid, details are bright, textures are smooth,
Framerate is maxed, gameplay is super fluid..
Makes my old rig feel like a stone wheel by comparison..

Now I'm shopping for a giant monitor...
Found a LG 42inch, 1080p, 15k;1 dynamic contrast,
5ms response time, max res 1820x1080...
Hmmmm, looks very tempting!!!!

Gonna try to get the salesman at bestbuy to let me
run AH on their showroom floor unit... Just to see if it
works well enough before I buy it...
LOL, this oughta be fun!!!!

Please report back your findings. I flew on a 48" for a long time but it was so tall I kept losing TrackIR and having to recenter.

Well, I went to Bestbuy in Oly WA, where they had
the correct unit.. 2.5 hrs each way...
The salesman was hot to hook up AH to the unit,
but the manager said no... Even after flashin the
wad of greenstamps, bummer!!! Company policy, oh well..

I told them that the only real thing that concernes me
is ghosting, and the response time, 5ms... I'm sure that
1080p is fine, max res is great, blah blah... They said that
it would work great, but they work on commission, ya know...
They'd say anything, to suck my wallet dry... LOL!!!
To be fair, they showed me some very fast action video,
and there was no ghosting... It also has some tech built in
that prevents ghosting (new feature)... But I think PC
works a little diff than HD video, doesn't it???

I guess I need to get 3rd, 4th, and 5th opinions about response
times.. Anybody have a big monitor, w 5ms response time???

You guys didn't steer me wrong last time...

Sorry, can't help.  I've only got a 22" with 2 ms response and it's great.  The reason I didn't go bigger (well, part of the reason... $ too) is that I couldn't find that kind of response time in a larger monitor.

I just recently got a BenQ 24 " HD monitor and have been running it on my old machine.

Works GREAT!

No ghosting and NO dead pixels.

Might want to look into the BenQ 22" and I can recommend someone for you to talk to there.

I told her what I needed and why and she recommended the E2400HD.

BenQ has good reputation in 24" size

BenQ 24" monitors have won several reviews with price/quality ratio so I can believe that.

I have an old HANNS-G 19" LCD.. one of their first generation monitors..

This one is 8ms response time.

I'll be honest.. there is some SLIGHT ghosting... but it is only noticeable when in a GV turret, fully zoomed, and rapidly moving left or right.  Then it's a mild annoyance, but really not too bad.

I'd imagine 5ms would be a huge improvement, but I'm too cheap to replace this one until it actually goes bad... and it's been... close to five years and it still works as good as when I took it out of the box.

What I am using now is 28" 1920x1200 3ms 800:1 (3 of them)

What I would like to be using is 30" 2560x1600 6ms 1000:1 (3 of them if I can manage the resolution... not sure on that)

What I have now is just fine and makes shooting so much easier then 1280x1024!
