Plane Stats
« on: December 05, 2008, 12:59:28 PM »
Is there a place that I can view all the plane stats? Like a web page or anything.
I'm looking for info such as

Va - Maneuvering Speed is the maximum speed at which full or abrupt control
movements may be used without overstressing the airframe

Vfe - Maximum flap extended speed is the highest speed permissible with wing
flaps in a prescribed extended position.

Vs - Stalling speed or the minimum steady flight speed is the minimum speed at
which the airplane is controllable.

Vx - Best angle of climb speed is the speed which results in the greatest gain
of altitude in a given horizontal distance.

Vy - Best Rate of climb speed is the speed which results in the greatest gain
in altitude in a given time

Those are some examples of information I'm looking for.
Also if there are any charts of performance at diffrent altitudes those would
be great.

Thanks for any help you can offer.  :salute

Amazing you could actually recruit that much suck into one squad.

A lot of the stats you are looking for are not frequently divulged, as
1- The game has certain features built in that will give you feedback
2- A little bit of time in the air and you will rely on instinct, not on memorizing numbers

For example,
Va: A stress loaded airframe sound plays when you are approaching the critical point of airframe damage at high speeds

Vfe: Flaps do not break from high airspeed alone, they auto-retract in this game.

Vs: Buffering and an optional stall buzzer

Vx and Vy: Are linked in a function called "auto climb". This is actually auto speed; the function does not measure ideal angle of climb, but rather sets your plane to the appropriate angle of climb (or descent) to maintain the speed you set. Type .speed xxx into your text buffer, and then press alt+x. Most planes are default set to their best climb speed, so simply pressing alt+x alone will give you their best rate of climb. Sometimes, though, to maintain a shallower climb to keep airspeed up, you might want to try a .speed 225 or something.

That said, if you can find all the data you're looking for (at all altitudes), then great, and I'm glad you are taking this approach as a new player (background in aviation?). If not, don't worry, as your experience ingame along with these functions will diminish the necessity for hard data.

As previously noted, Soda's aircraft evaluations and Gonzo's charts will provide you with a lot of good information, however neither resource is complete (Both are missing the patch from when they updated the Hogs and added the F4U-1A forward). More information on the missing aircraft can be found on the AH Wiki (linked somewhere around here).
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

The wiki link is at the top left corner of the page, next to 'Home'.

Thanks everyone.
I really appreciate it.
And to answer Trotters question yes I fly in Real Life. For Kenmore Air here in Seattle WA.
I look forward to flying with you all  :salute

Kenmore Air? Ironically thats also a 'mission' in FSX.

That would explain why it is in FSX alright.

Va - Maneuvering Speed is the maximum speed at which full or abrupt control
movements may be used without overstressing the airframe
That has never been compiled.

Vfe - Maximum flap extended speed is the highest speed permissible with wing
flaps in a prescribed extended position.
This can easily be found in flight tests, since AH auto-retracts flaps when the maximum speed is reached, and locks out flaps and gear deployment when above max speed.

Vs - Stalling speed or the minimum steady flight speed is the minimum speed at
which the airplane is controllable.
One can determine that with a flight test, and using Badboy's Bootstrap Calculator, and also find Cv and sustained Cv

Vx - Best angle of climb speed is the speed which results in the greatest gain
of altitude in a given horizontal distance.
The default auto speed which is ALT-X will give you the optimum climb speed for each plane.

Vy - Best Rate of climb speed is the speed which results in the greatest gain
in altitude in a given time
Can be found by right clicking the plane in the hanger, or on the AHWiki page for that plane.

Those are some examples of information I'm looking for.

You also may want to check out Spatula's performance comparison utility which provides a little bit more performance info than DokGonzo's site.
