Historical hi-def photographs.

Here is an interesting website for you history buffs. It’s www.shorpy.com and they feature high definition historical photographs.

If you click on "view full size" you get big pictures like these.

An interesting photo of early P51s (could actually be A36s). You skinners may be interested in the over spray on the camouflage paint jobs.

Those are fantastic photos!

The P-51 photo looks like 51-A's with the 4 20mm setup. They are defintly not run of the mill 51 B/C/D/H/Ks.

yea at least one of those is an A model cause the air intake is on top.  and it sure looks like they are the 20mm versions

Those are P51's, not P51A's. The P51A was never produced with 4 20mm cannons.

Looking at that factory really makes you wonder what in heck were the Germans and Japs thinking when they declared war on America.

actually I think they might be Mk1As,  British lead lease

ok, one of my books says serial #s FD438 through 509 were british lend lease.  The rest retained for USAAF after Pearl Harbor with RAF camouflage and US insignia, Serial #s FD418 to 567, 57 of them were later converted to F-6A and P-51-1. 

Serial # sequence doesn't make sense to me though
