How wide must waterways be for CV?
« on: December 26, 2009, 02:22:02 PM »
Working on a new MA terrain & it contains lots of islands and places where landmasses come semi-close together.  Is there a set minimum width a waterway must be for proper CV navigation through it without getting a "waypoint touches land"?  They've recently made it so that CVs can come closer to shore (nor sure why) so is there a set minimum width distance?

I know I'm going to have to remove some islands for better CV passage, but here it is so far:

Awww, either I've stumped everyone, or nobody likes me. :cry

The reason I ask is I have separate large bodies of water for CVs to do their thing in, but I want to have connecting waterways for the CVs to move to the other large bodies of water if the players so choose.  I want the connecting waterways to be big enough for the CVs to be able to maneuver around in, in case of attack, but still be narrow enough that when they are passing through, they get the feeling of "running the gauntlet". heightening the tension some.

Right on.  I'll go with that for now then because if that's true, then I'm in business with hardly any editing. :aok

Ranger,

The closest a CV can come to shore is about 1.5 miles.  So a waterway 4 miles wide would only have a channel 1 mile wide that the CV could sail through and it could be very difficult to place the CV’s course along that channel.  Obviously, the wider the waterway the easier it is to navigate.

Dang I haven't made a map in so long... I would say 5 miles is what  I have used in the past with the CV going down the middle, but when people start manually controlling them it gets more difficult like MachNix said.

I planned on using 10 miles wide for the narrowest "slots".  I just wanted to double check because yesterday when I was in-game I noticed all the waterways were a grid square wide & wasn't sure if that was the rule or not.  Thanks for the help fellas. :salute
