Having some memory and sound problems.
« on: June 19, 2009, 06:16:44 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm having 2 major problems with my new gaming rig and I'm wondering if anyone might know an easy fix. Now before anyone asks I'm trying to contact the person who built it but he's currently out of town for the week, so I'm hoping someone here might shed some light on this.

These are the 2 problems.

First, ever since I got this machine it's had a problem of resetting alot of settings on reboot. For instance everytime I reboot the computer, Firefox acts like a fresh install the first time I run it, wanting me to check for past settings and weather I want to import IE settings or not. It also does this with winamp, every reboot my past playlist is gone and it goes thru the standard checks like you'd just installed it. Also it affects things I download to the desktop. I saved my files from my old computer and then transferred them via portable HD to the new one, or things I needed anyway. Everytime I reboot many things I've transferred are gone and have to be re downloaded from the external HD.
Is there any easy fix to this or must I wait for my friend to return from his vacation?

Problem number 2 deals with AH.
Now this only happened the other night and still persists today. For some reason, most, not all, but most of my sounds from AH will not play, even when I delete and re download them. Now this is the odd thing, when I open them up in Windows Media player they play just fine, but if I open them up in Winamp they will "play" but there will be no sound. (IE the bars and track move) This is also affecting my vox as I believe something has screwed up my WAV file settings and is not letting the computer play WAV sounds.
Any ideas on this one too? I'm afraid to go messing with drivers as I fear that if I install new ones they may disappear on the next reboot.

Thanks for your time fellows.

Is this a Vista install?  If so is AH loaded into C:\Games\HTC or is it C:\ Program Files\HTC  If this is a Vista install is your account setup as an Admin or as a User.  Since someone built this for you, I would recommend doing the OS install yourself.  If your not comfy doing this yourself feel free to drop me a PM and we can arrange to talk on the phone and I will walk you through the whole thing.
