I'm almost afraid to ask what a "PETA fishing tournament" consists of....

Well their HQ building sits on the Elizabeth River in downtown Norfolk, so the PETA fishing tournament consists of everything any other fishing tournament does, cold beer, squashed sandwiches, stinky bait, good friends, BUT.....there is the added benefit of being able to enjoy all that while anchored in the river right in front of their building.

It is/was a really well organized event during the striper season. I haven't heard anything about it for a few years now so I don't know if they still hold it, but the first couple of years PETA was all sorts of pissed off about it. The organizers did it right though. They had the local game and fish officers on hand to verify everyone involved had a valid liscense before they were even allowed to get in a boat, the Coast Guard, local police, and state police, had heavy water patrols going on to make sure the people fishing weren't interferred with by PETA.

Here's an artical that was written about one of the guys who started the whole thing.  http://www.vabass.com/Angler_Profiles/2001/Tommy_Griffiths_July.htm

"Tommy and Rumble also use their show to promote an annual "PETA Fishing Tournament" on the Elizabeth River, directly in front of the animal rights group's headquarters. Usually they get about one hundred boats to come out for the event, some of them sporting mounted deer on their decks and sausages hanging from the sides of the boats."

Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are: You only
need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the
WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
