Individual FSO Squads Free Forums
« on: July 28, 2009, 07:21:00 PM »
Reading the posts concerning the recent issues in FSO activities.  It seems to me that maybe some of the squads don't have a way for squad communication.  There is plenty of free forum websites that host free forums.  They might lack the full range of capabilities like the HTC forums and the one used by us Arabian Knights.  They will give a squad a place to communicate with ease.

www.forumer.com
www.forumotion.com
www.freeforums.com

Just to list a few.  They give you free hosting and unlimited space.  A BB forum is an excellent tool and I highly recomend them.  They take a couple of minutes to set up by filling in some blanks.  The person starting it will be given administrator status either as admin or as there forum name.

Just wanted to pass along some helpful ideas. :salute

All of those are great places to start a forums. My squad uses the Forumer database for ours. There is a bit of an issue with these types of free forums though. If the forums crash and lose information, there will be no backup. For a free forums, you get whats free.

Seems like using the Aces High supplied Squadron forum to sign up for FSO events should be enough.  That's what Rolling Thunder does.  It's easy for the Command Staff to "sticky" a sign up thread each frame.

That's something I didn't know.  They would be a start initially until maybe a squad with a member could afford a few dollars a month for a premium hosting site with better servers.  This would allow the forum to better enhabced with options like pics and video.

Definitely worth a thought.

Most of the problems in FSO stems from lack of communication. Communication within a squad, communications between squads on a side, communication with CMs (remember you can always contact the admin CM, setup CM, and team lead CM) to ask a question or for a point of clarification or to make sure if something is fine or not, and communication from the CMs to the squads.

So any tool or method that can help facilitate communication is a good thing in my book.

My squad has one too with aimoo.com. Only thing is, you cant force them to go to their own forum either. Out of 10-12 members half have signed up, less visit often. Only one besides me even checks out the AH BBS.
