clueless
« on: July 30, 2009, 11:40:18 AM »
ok, I hoped I could fix my framerate problem with all the good tips you can read on this board. But finally I am not able to fix it.

When I up a plane or a tank, I have framerates about 30. Then, after few minutes the screen kind of blinks (splitsecond) and then no movement at all. Seconds later movement begins very slowly. During this time the frame rate goes up to 200. Then suddenly the plane or tank speeds up. I mean, I am going really fast and frame rate is at 20 or so. After this its stuttering and no fun.

Here are my settings and the dxdiag protocol:

Vid settings:
Resolution: 1280x800
Field of view: auto (90)
Max Tex Size: 128
Anti-Aliasing: none

Grafik settings ingame:
Object detail: 50% (I tried less -> no improvement)
Ground detail range: 60% to the right (I tried less -> no improvement)

Other Skins disabled
Horizon disabled

Advanced settings: Detailed terrain checked. Everything else unchecked.
When detailed terrain unchecked, problem as descibed above is still there

-----------------------------------------------------
I dont know what you need from the system info, so I copied all.

Thx for any kind of help!

Regards

Just a quick comment on your post, even though you installed DX10 it's for Vista not XP (it's why DX9 is still there).
I know not useful for your problem, but thought you would want to know.

When did you install the DX10 for XP hack? By installing DX10 you very well could have caused the problem. The other issue I'm seeing is that you only have 1GB of RAM and onboard graphics. Onboard graphics are terrible when it comes to running Direct3D games such as Aces High. So your graphics chip could be another one of the problems. As for memory, I'm not sure if adding more will assist the situation. It would help your computer's speed, though.

Actually I see a very low end video card with only 64MB of video RAM.  That card will not be able to run the "Detailed Terrain" option without serious performance issues.

ah, ok! Didn´t knew that!

I installed DX10 after the problems started. So thats not the error-source.
Graphics memory is 64MB, not 1GB.

Actually I see a very low end video card with only 64MB of video RAM.  That card will not be able to run the "Detailed Terrain" option without serious performance issues.

Even if I uncheck "Detailed Terrain", its not getting much better. Before the patch, I could play AH with a frame rate around 60 (not full graphics options). So, I guess, if that is your last word, Skuzzy, I have to get a new computer....

Not my last word at all.  I am a chatty SOB. :)

1)  Make sure you have AA and AF settings in the video control panel set to "Application Controlled"
2)  Make sure you do not have the ATI Catalyst Control Center running in the system tray!!!
3)  Check Task Manager and make sure the "CPU Usage" under "Processes" stays at zero when nothing is running on the desktop.
4)  Use the latest ATI video card driver.
5)  Maximum Texture Size should be 256, not 128.
6)  Make sure all power management is disabled.

I'll have more, but let's see what happens from that.

Ok, done that, have detailed terrain unchecked and Bump Map terrain checked and framerate is around 50.
Vidmen 64 used 33.5

flying for 10 min without major stuttering. So far :aok and many thanks Skuzzy!!

 :furious

ok, as stated before, everything is fine at the beginning. Frame rate is around 50 +/- and AH is playable.

But as soon as my screen *blinks* (I don`t know how to describe. Its like if you are blinking with your eye. Only a split second or so.) things get worse. This *blinking* occurs not after certain actions. Its like, the grafik card is switching into a different mode or so. Movements stop, frame rate goes up to 100, movement comes slowly back, frame rate dropps to 20, movement is normal, frame rate up to 30 and then suddenly, like someone started jet engines, I speed around like flying a jet and frame rate is down to 7 or so. This holds on for around 30 sec and then I slow down to normal speed and frame rate is back to normal and everything is fine again. So, this effects dont´t come regularly or start at specified actions. This happens just so..meaning 20 minutes everything is ok, then above happens, then 10 minutes all ok, then again and so on.

So, somehow something is happening to the grafik card while loading details or terrain and it kind of switches into a different mode or resets memory. I don´t know..... :frown:

Wow...  ...that system is at the very bottom of the chart for gaming potential, especially anything new.

Not sure if you have tried this yet but get into the bios and see if there is a way to increase the video aperture size since it's on the AGP bus...it's probably at 64 or 128 so see if you can crank it to 256.

If you still have the Dell power management utilities and can shut it down, do so...I generally just uninstall all of the Dell utilities...there used to be a setting in there that would put the video chip and the cpu into some sort of low power mode to keep it from over heating, not sure if you have that version.

The pentium mobile processor uses a speed step technology (not running at full speed all the time)...what you're experiencing could be a result of that process...do you hear the system fan speed up at any time while you're in game?

The laptop could be throttling back the CPU and/or the video chip due to heat.  That would cause what you are seeing to happen.
