Its an old feature that was used around the time of the infamous arena split, where bases had to be taken in a certain order. Mass crying put an end to it, I wasn't too fond of it either.

I might add that "Field Order" is still used today designate the uncapturable bases on each map.

If field A has to be captured before field B, but also B has to be captured before field A can be captured, both fields are effectively uncapturable.
