Couple of nights ago, my squadies and I were doing some base defense when no less than a dozen C47 came in and dropped troops on our town which was completely down. Well, some of my fellow country men were more interested in killing goons (after they had released their troops) rather than killing troops thus trying to save our base.
Anyway, our base was captured the greenies ran and my squadies and I started taking down town ack. Well, pretty soon we were in a sky full of red icons. After a little while there were only two of us left in spitties trying to find a hole to run for our lives. Only problem is he and I had an LA each on our tails and more bad guys coming. We were turning hi/low circles to get around but found that we were running out of time fast because the horde was coming fast. So, we did the only thing we could think of which was to trade LA LAs. We initiated horizontal figure 8s running right for each other at the middle. On that run, we HO'd (that's right, I said it) the LAs. Well, on the second pass, he killed my LA and I killed his. Just in time too because the horde was about 1k away. After that, we Wep'd up and ran like heck for home. Laughed my butt off all the way too.
So my question is, in WW2, does anyone know of a fight where real pilots utilized this tactic to clear each other's tail when they were both in trouble?
Thanks!
