I guess this is in the same general vein as the discussion on L/E slots....
It's my understanding that the N1 had a rather advanced (by WW2 standards) system for automatic control of its maneuvering flaps. So, how is AH gonna handle this? Is the effect of the autoflap system incorporated into the plane's basic flight model or is it left out entirely?
If the autoflap thing IS in the flight model, how will it interact with manual flap operation? Will manual flap operation even be possible?
I'm curious because AW's N1 has both the automatic flaps in the flight model numbers (ie, not accessible to the pilot) AND normal manual flap control. This leads to some VERY strange effects if you use the manual flaps in regimes where the autoflaps are working, such as a huge nose DOWN AoA with manual flaps at combat speeds, control lock-up, etc.
One thing I do think is pretty cool about AW's N1 autoflaps, however, is that they seem to keep you from bleeding down below 200 IAS in hard turns. The plane slows to 200 and then stays there, shaking like a junkie in withdrawal. I've been told this is because at 200, the autoflaps close to reduce drag and help speed get back above 200, but when this happens and you still have G on, they come out again, slowing you down again. I don't know if this is accurate, but it seems plausible and makes a nice effect. Will AH have anything like this happening?
Thanks.
