One of those frames?
« on: January 09, 2010, 01:30:09 AM »
These numbers are amazing.  I mean, as an axis pilot this FSO, I can't complain, but...

# of A-20G used           29
# of Il-2 Type 3 used     9
# of La-5FN used          38
# of P-39Q used          136
# of Yak-9U used          28

We flew P-39s this frame, and there were more than a few disparaging comments on Country by some of the other squads in P-39s. They were pretty wrong, too.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I didn't take part in FSO (have to work Friday nights), but from the looks of the logs, the p39s gave about as good as they got.

Not bad at all vs Luftwaffe stuff that have a better RoC and top speed.

It was one of those frames for me...

I was Killed unknowingly when i tried to relay coordinates of enemy near V46. I thought I could extend away from the fight bust of the coords and get back into the fight... wrong I was.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Obviously a 1.5 fuel burn is not an issue if you have drop tanks...

The La-5/7 had the capacity for two drop tanks.  I wonder why we don't have them in AH?

The La-7 was so dominating before the addition of other late war air craft into the game. I'm thinking that may have had somthing to do with it. But it may be time to potition for DTs on LAs. Would be nice in the Mains. I use RPM control to extend range, but often run short with most of my ammo on board. If it doesn't fit the design of an event than they could be ruled out by the Host CM.

IMO the Airacobras in this game (like P-51Ds, all F4us, and some other planes) lack a number of vices in their handling, making them ... shall we say "more effective" than historically true. The plane is totally rock-stable even in the most off-angle stalls. I've almost never spun one out, despite numerous historical tales of instability.

One thing I think IL2 got better than AH, and that's a VERY short list of things!

well the p-39 does have one major flaw

if someone is on your 6 O'clock chances are u will probably not see him, no matter how hard you look, you won't notice him until its too late

Very true, but in squad v squad engagements you have check6s, squaddies, etc.  :aok
