By no means am I slamming AH..we went thru this on the 109 FM topic in another forum , Guys..I just wish HT would wake up one day and realize that not everyone
cares about the MA and all the arcade stuff that goes on with it ..I have activated and terminated my acct with AH since '99 ..I keep thinking that the planes that are SORELY needed
for the Axis / Allied arena , should have already been here ..we should have the He-111 , Pe-2 , G4M , Ki-21 ,Ki-43 , Lagg 3 , Mig 3 , among many others already in this sim . I hadn't played AH
in years until I saw awhile back that this new CT arena was coming and it was to be an epic endeavor ..and it would have been something to reel the MA haters like myself and others to spend the fee and play .  I wanted it to work ..I want AvA to work ..I remember some very good squad nights back in the day . camaradie is half the experience for me . Now some very good folks like OM and others
are trying to keep this place alive..but they're always having to sub this..sub that..forgive me for plugging this ..but with IL2 UP2.0 now ..you can go on some servers the Spanish Civil War thru every air battle that took place straight to the Korean War..with the correct plane sets and this is thanks to the dedicated folks who worked their tulips off..for free mind you..to make Il2 a better sim than it was . the AH folks have the ability to achieve this ..I can't figure out their mindsets on why it hasn't happened .

 :salute all that soldier on

I don't know anything about IL2 but if every aircraft under the sun is available, are they all coded by Ubisoft or do they have third party stuff going on like with the CFS series where you have no idea how historically accurate they are?

At least we know that actual R&D goes on here to create accurate flight models.

Even then, I wonder about some, like the Brewster.

Everything I've read, especially pilot accounts against the Japanese at Midway, suggests it was such a POS that it was suicide to take one into combat.

Here, it can turn fight with anything.

In IL2, everything is off in some areas. The stalls and spins are overdone, the individual performance aspects of aircraft are underdone and the campaigns are tedious after 2 or 3 missions.

In online play I have had a 109 outturn a Spitfire because the 109 was going FASTER, there is no combat flaps because they JAM at the first hint of speed, slowing to fighting speed is suicide because you spin and the guy with wep just pwns you. And the thing that PO's me the most about IL2 is the flight model is the same for almost every plane, all fighters handle the same and all bombers handle the same. THey shift planes into groups and then use a generic flight model. WHERE IS THE LOVE?

All this is supposed to be "Realistic", I have 3 hours flying experience in an aerobatic Grob and Im just 15. And I can already tell you that planes do not stall like that unless the airspeed is minimal.

The only plus for IL2 is the historical aspect and the gamey feel.

Ignore plawranc and his nonsense.

Yes, there is a big modding community for Il-2.  Some of the mod packs are very conservative when they introduce new aircraft, e.g. the UI series and HSFX.  They retain damage and flight models from the stock game when they introduce a new aircraft variant.  Others think they know better and mess with stuff that they do not understand, notably the mod pack UP2 that Bolt64 mentioned.

But don't let that throw you.  The vast majority of modded content is updated textures for terrain, clouds, explosions, new maps, etc.

Half the people who say that at this forum haven't actually tried the game.  And I'll say it again, all of the planes in AH have a similar feel when you come over from a different flight sim, but many people here don't realize that because... they don't try other flight sims. :D

I have and I think Oleg is brilliant. However, his flight model physics he's used since IL-2 version 1.0 years ago, hasn't really changed much but the products are VERY different.  Oleg's done a much better job with cockpits, environments, and damage model.  Dale and Doug however have done a brilliant job with s flight model which, just makes this a different game.

You cannot compare IL2 and AH.  They are two different engines with two specific purposes.  IL2 is not meant for MMO which means you can put a lot more emphasis on the machine it runs on.  AH is designed for sending a lot of data (simpler the better) over the internet.  Two different engines with two different purposes.

My sims I own (not all, but you get the picture)
Flight Simulator 1 (SubLogic on C-64), right up to Flight Simulator X Gold
Combat Fighter (C-64)
Jet Version 1.0 (Amiga)
Chuck Yeagers Air Combat
Hind
F-117
Janes F-15
James Apache
F-18
Su 27 Flanker 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5
Strike Fighters/Wings Over Vietnam
Strike Fighter 2 / Wings Over Vietnam 2/ Wing Over Europe 2/ Wings Over Israel 2
Enemy: Lock-On (Su-27 3)

And I'm not the only one who flys around here Anaxogoras who've been flying flight simulators on PC's since they first came out.  A lot of the AvA staffers are seasoned flight simulator enthusiasts. :salute

Had my first jump into AvA yesterday since there was more than 0 players logged in. What a blast. Flying the Emil on equal footing was a tremendously enjoyable experience. The small caliber weapon loadout made fights last longer with a strong emphasis on ACM. But boy - those Bostons are TOUGH. Even with the Emils cannon loadout the take some work to bring down - let alone once you down to MG!!!

Had a very nice LOW speed, LOW alt dance with a Hurri glued to my six. He pinged me couple of times without inflicting any serious damage and I was able to get away after inducing a stall speed overshoot.

The only thing that keeps me away from AvA is the non-existant player numbers during GMT evenings. I just don't have the time to sit in AvA until another willing player logs in to bring arena population to 2!

I think once in a while AvA should be force as main arena!!!  :rock
