What steps do I take to install a sound card

I've been having trouble with my onboard sound microphone working right.  I posted a month or so ago about it, and I sort of got it fixed.  But it will work for a while, then everyone next to squelches me because to them it sounds like I have my head out the window at 80mph.  At least that is what they tell me   I keep having to resetv about every 15 min ingame.

So I bought a SoundBlaster X-fi Xtreme Audio sound card, mainly because that is what was in stock where I bought this one.  I have not opened the package at all yet or anything.  While ingame I mentioned I was gonna get a sound card, and it was said all I have to do is disable the onboard sound and install the sound card.  Is it that simple?  And where might I disable the onboard sound?

Turn computer on.

Hit 'delete' to enter bios.

Find onboard sound.

Save bios setting and reboot (don't change any other settings).

Go into windows and remove all sound drivers for the onboard sound with driver cleaner.

Turn off computer.

Put in sound card after unplugging computer.

Turn computer on, use disk instead of allowing windows to install its own drivers for it, or better yet, download the new ones off the Creative site for the card.

Reboot, re-enter windows, and enjoy.

I have a SoundBlaster X-fi Xtreme, seems fine to me, should help with FPS over onboard, Creative site has a widget you can download which looks at your system (when card in) and tells you if there are any later drivers.

yes..but don't install the Creative manager / auto updater program

it will use up resources and will start up everytime you start your PC....... just adding to the processes

go to the Creative forums and check out what all the different ( like 3 to 8 ) processes it will install along with just the driver ....... most of this crap is not needed and it would be better for you to make sure you don't allow most of them to run.......

if ya can't figure it out, post back here or shoot me a PM and I will send you a list of what can run and what must run, and what should / can be turned off from loading.......

Ok, got the onboard sound disabled, deleted the onboard sound drivers, installed the new sound card and its drivers.  Alas I didnt read back here and let it install everything lol.  I will see if I can delete some of the auto update things.  Or, can I just delete the whole sound deal again and reinstall carefully?  Anyway I have it working and have been in game and my voice seems to be clear.  We'll see what happens.
