T-34/76 Ammuniton
« on: March 18, 2010, 10:24:04 AM »
I was checking out the vehicles and I noticed that the T-34/76 had 3 types of ammo.  HE, AP, and HVAP.  What struck me as odd was the HVAP (hyper velocity armor piercing) round.  In my limited reading that is one round I have not come across.  Can anyone give me information on where I can find out more about it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HVAP

in our t34's,  they are quite effective at close <1200 yds range

Appreciated you reply.  I had just finished reading an article about the APCR (Armored-piercing, Composite Rigid) round at the British called it and that it was referred to as a HVAP (High Velocity, Armored-piercing) in the US.

The German came up with an interesting 28mm pak for their airborne troops.

It squeezed a 28mm tungsten round down to 20mm and gave it a muzzle velocity
of over 4,000 fps.
