Training Arena
« on: April 07, 2010, 04:05:23 PM »
Noticed since the last update the following the Training Arena:

1) In the Dive Bombing area buildings / guns can not be destroyed, although damage is shown in lower left corner of screen.
2) The AA guns on the train are indestructible, although damage is shown in lower left corner of screen.
3) 2 x 1000# bomb hits on train indicated 6 train AA guns destroyed, although they continued firing and there are but two.
4) All hit sprites on ground objects are gone.

I don't know if the changes were on purpose or not, but I personally liked it better before.  Many years ago (~2000) I seem to remember trains that could be derailed by bomb damaged tracks. That was fun.

Respectfully,

I believe that the buildings stay up so that you can keep practicing. if they were to go down then you wouldn't have anything to practice on.

Bowhtr pretty much nailed it.

Most things have a very small down time, just long enough so that you can tell something was destroyed.

"3) 2 x 1000# bomb hits on train indicated 6 train AA guns destroyed, although they continued firing and there are but two."

You killed both guns 3 times, thats why you got the 6 guns destroyed messages.

It also keeps people from capturing fields in the TA.

When I noticed the changes in the TA I contacted Roy via email.  He said I should post what I experienced in the "Bug" forum. I did, but it was moved here by Skuzzy.

I wish Skuzzy had replied that the changes were necessary or that corrections needed to be made.  Unlike the MA the buildings reset (rebuilt) after a few minutes before the update.  I wasn't aware that anyone had ever taken a town in the TA.

Not being able to "blow things up" as we had before has two down sides.  One is that I can no longer tell what I hit in the radar site or town so accuracy assesment (BDA) is no longer possible.  Secondly, what fun is there in hitting "indestructable" buildings?

Well, the good news is that I can practice on RR bridges for accuracy and, as of yesterday, the buildings off line do blow up. (Trouble is, the Ack works there too.)

Perhaps they could change the timing in the training arena so that buildings or guns only stay down for two minutes.
