AH Trainers' email not working?
« on: April 19, 2010, 06:42:20 PM »

Hello,

I am new to AH and am a 9-5 day-job guy, so can't make the regularly scheduled open training hours as they are daytime/weekday.  The AH pages seem to suggest that other training hours are available by appointment, yes?

I have tried emailing the AH training staff (per the posted addresses) and the emails have bounced back as non-deliverable.

How do I go about scheduling training in AH?

I am seeking instruction/assistance in 3 areas:

1) Ground Vehicle (GV) use.  Never tried it but very interested in learning.

2) Moderate to advanced ACM.  I have the basics down fairly well, I believe.  Happy to be shown I don't.  ;)

3) AH general strategic elements, base closure/capturing etc.  I like fighter-bomber (jabo) missions, so tips in those areas would be great.

Thanks,

Kingpin

The mail might be bouncing because you're using an email provider listed as an open relay. We do get email.

As TC just posted, you can Private Message or offer up a couple of possible days and times you're available, including time zone, and that will help get the ball rolling.

Welcome to AH!!

Thank you for the prompt reply, gents.

I am on the US West Coast and can be available weeknight evenings between the hours of 6-10pm Pacific time (9pm-1am Eastern) or various weekend hours, given enough advance notice.

Are there particular trainers who handle different areas (i.e. ACM, dive bombing or GV use)?

TC: I will attempt to email or PM directly.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Hello AH Training Staff,

I am still awaiting word from a trainer.

Sorry if I'm being impatient, but I guess I am eager to learn some further details about this game, as I am trying to decide between Warbirds, WWIIOL and Aces High.

Welcome to the game :)

A trainer will probably get back to you soon, but I think for the most part they specialise in certain planes, rather than certain areas.

Also, from what I've heard (and yes, this may be slightly biased, but everything I know indicates it's true  ;) :D):
-Warbirds sucks (poor flight models)
-WWIIOL is good if you want an all-rounder game, that models infantry combat too, but if you want a flight simulator then it's fairly poor.
-Aces High has the best flight modelling there is (which is almost certainly true, from my own experience), and very fun vehicle combat (+ excellent integration between the two, IMO), but it lacks infantry.

Anyway, hope you decide to stay here!  :aok
Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
Apparently I'm in the 20th FG 'Loco Busters', or so the legend goes.

Check your mail Kingpin!

Basic stuff I can handle, mid to advanced ACM and tactics I'll hand off to someone else.

Kingpin, first off,  Welcome. :salute

There is an excellent write-up for jabo tactics on Hammer's site.  Here it is:  http://www.netaces.org/

I find that the best way to improve on your tactis is to practice.  In the training arena, you have the dive bombing cross-hairs that show you where your ords will land.  Practice, read, practice, and practice some more.

Good luck. :aok

I tried dive bombing in the training arena and didn't get any "crosshairs".  Do you need to toggle this on/off?  Come to think of it, I was trying out the A20, so maybe the game thinks of that as a level bomber and doesn't give the dive-bombing crosshairs?

Worked with Ghosth for a bit last night who gave me some very helpful pointers.  <S> Ghosth

I did try out GV'ing for my first time in AH last night and was rudely introduced to the fact that people spawn camp in here.  I came up in a tank a couple times in died instantly before realizing that he had backed into a hanger behind the spawn point and was shooting GV's as they appeared.  It must be this player's tanking method of choice, rather than looking for a real tank fight, as he did this at 2 different bases.  Nothing more frustrating than a game where you die in the first 5 seconds.  Spawn campers are the lamest of the lame, IMO...

So, apparently there is only one place to spawn a GV at a GV base in AH??  That really promotes a camping problem, doesn't it?

Yep, I agree!  The best solution is just not to spawn there, or spawn in from another base (if possible), then drive in and try and get the camper.

And yes, it does produce a problem, but thankfully the campers don't last all that long generally!

Settings probably got changed for FSO manual bombing practice Kingpin. I'll check them now sir.

Easiest way around a spawn camp, bring a plane with eggs.

Can you bomb an enemy tank parked inside your own (friendly) hangar?

I'm sure that is a yes, but with the MA settings, it will damage/destroy the hangar, depending on how much ordinance is dropped.

I also recommend trying out the 190F8 rockets, those are the best (if only) anti-tank designed rockets in the game. If you can hit the tank, it's almost a guaranteed kill  :aok
