Yesterday's mission was a recreation of a 1941 RAF "Circus," where a larger formation of fighters would escort few token bombers to hit German-held coastal targets on the continent. Eight Spitfires escorted three B-26's out of f4. There target was f21, with any remaining ordnance dropped on f8 on the way home. Another two Spits, launching late due to engine trouble, managed to join up with the strike on it's way home.
Results: All fighters and bombers reached their targets and returned to base safely. Moderate damage was done to both targets, though an electical problem with the Marauder's electical bomb-release mechanism caused a salvo release unexpectedly. This resulted in lower accuracy on the drop. RAF Technical Services is making hasty field modifications to correct this problem, which is indemic to all aircraft in Bomber Command. Two kills were confirmed, one by GronK from his B-26, the other by SCSpook in his Spit MkIX. Jerry showed a marked reluctance to challenge the RAF this day. Perhaps when the Yanks get into the fight and begin their long-range daylight raids, the Luftwaffe will get over their current case of "kannelkrank."
TOD Cummulative Results: So far, we've claimed four enemy aircraft shot down in two missions, with the loss of one pilot, SCSledriver (KIA). Another downed pilot, SCSpook, bailed out just inside enemy territory, but managed to evade and return to our side of the lines (die roll). Next mission scheduled for this Thursday at 21:30 EST. Registration is still open, and there's still plenty of missions remaining to earn credit for a TOD ribbon. Good day.
