Say your monitor at 1024x768 puts out 85Hz refresh, but you run AH at 1280x1024 and get horrid frame rates. I know why... your refresh rate ain't the same! That's right, when you switch monitor resolutions your refresh rate is reset to default. Which could be as slow as 60Hz! Here's how ya fix it. Right-click on the desktop, Properties > Settings > Advanced button at the bottom. This will let you find out just what refresh rate you've got at your current rez. Switch over to the Performance tab and select "Apply changes without restarting". Hit OK
once and switch your screen rez over to what you run AH at. Now go back into the Advanced button and reset your refresh rate to what you normally have it at. If you use 85Hz, then set it to 85Hz.
Make dang sure you don't go overboard with this! If your monitor is a cheap one, you could fry it by setting the refresh too high. Now, go back to your original screen rez and you're done.
Here's what happened: You run AH in 1280x1024 but your desktop in 1024x768. When AH resizes your screen it also resets your refresh rate. You just told it to use a higher refresh rate when it resizes the screen. Und hence, you should now have a slight FR increase.
