lil' IE.5.5 Problem: Icons on the links tab
« on: April 14, 2001, 06:03:00 AM »
Hi.
I use the Links tab on IE5 a lot to go to my favorite sites. The problem is, some of the icon graphics are disapearing, so I can only see the default IE link icon.
Maybe with a picture I can explain myself better:

See, the HiTech Creations link is using the default 'e' on a white paper, instead of the pretty Aces High logo it used to have as an icon. The other links, VoodoExtreme and PlanetHardware have their own icons.

I like everything on my computer to look pretty like a pretty Barbie doll house. lol kidding   . But I really want all my links to have their own custom icon (if the site has one)

Anyone knows why this is not working right? I tried deleting all my links, going to the sites again and dragging the URL back to the Links tab, but only some sites have their own Icon. The HiTech Creation site used to have its own icon but it simply disapeared and started using the damn default one.

I have looked all around for a setting for this, or some way to force the links to use their DAMN ICONS.

I know this is really stupid, but these lil stupid things are the ones that really piss me off.

1.Right-click the link and select Properties.
2.Click Change Icon.
3.Click Browse.
4.Go to the link's program directory and select the program's executable.
eg. C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High\AH106T1061.EXE
5.Click Open.
6.Click OK.
7.Click OK again.

Thanks, that works, but there are some sites, like anandtech.com that have their own custom icon and its not working with it either, and there is no Anandtech game I can borrow and icon from

Thanks for the help tho.

Just delete it from the Links bar, then go to the site again.  Once the web page has opened with the icon in the address box, drag it over to Links again.

Just drive to Redmond Washington, track down Bill Gates, and scream at him for making a buggy product.

(You guys do know that there is a "critical update" for Internet Explorer 5 & 5.5 that allows you to send error messages to Microsoft so they can squash some bugs right.   Guess that tells you something... )

I've found out that IE 5.01 works somewhat good, installing 5.5 has brought only trouble to me.. I stoped using it a long ago.

In that view, IE6.0 should bring you 6 times the trouble...
