Question for Hystorians or Bronze Star researchers...

A guy I know Whose Dad Joseph Vermette is a Bronze Star recipient. He served in the Army and was in Hawaii when Perl was attacked. later served in New Guineain the 24th infantry division. His son is unable to find any information other than verifying the authenticity of the Bronze star. Is there any other way to find this information? Trying to help preserve a families heritage & hero's legacy. Father now is early dementia ...

Forgot to mention, in the 70's (I believe) the building containing
many thousands of records burned. Many records lost. Hope his not one of them.                                                                                                                                                                   Also, there are many other ways to find info. IE, unit rosters.

i live in st louis and yes you can write or call that office and get any info on him his records his medals or awards etc. My and my brother did it for my father after a house fire destroyed all his ribbons and medals. We was able to get them back we very little difficulty at all.

A fire did destroy a lot of the WW2 records held in St. Louis.  Couldn't hurt to try though

They have a section that deals with requesting information on all medal recipients.  Civilian site but very complete and well funded.  Just not a current design and the home page takes forever to load.  If it times out, Google it and go to some of the other options listed.  You'll get in and they can help.

I think he was in the Navy During WWII because he knows he was a pearl when it was attacked, then discharged after serving all over Pacific, re-upped in the Army during Korean war in 24th Infantry and went to Okinawa where he met his Wife as the son is Amerasian. Dad is still alive but dementia is talking his memory. Thanks Guys, I told him we had some good resources on here.

Not neccessarily as families can honor anyone who served in WW2.  Lots of living vets honored there.
