controllable buttons.
« on: January 31, 2011, 02:23:52 AM »
been thinking about this for awhile, could we possably have the ability to interact more with all the knobs&gauges in the cocpit? i used to play flight sim alot, where you could do all the functions you could on a keyboard, by simply clicking the right button on the cocpit. stuff like:

if you wanted to raise&lower your flaps, you could push c(for cocpit) then use the mouse to click on the flaps control in the planes, then simply pull it up&or down, then push c again to disengage cocpit interaction.
other things-

be able to adjust throttle/rpm with the cocpit controls.
be able to switch fuel tanks using the control panel.
and etc.

we'd could still all do these too with the keyboard (because some people will hate this idea) but it would be fun to interact more with the cocpit. add a little "realism" to it.  :D

thoughts?

would be fun, but would need the keyboard for in the middle of battle. (I fly one hand on stick, other on keyboard.)

there's at least another thread requesting the same thing.  and as ht mentioned before it wont happen.  but I think a lot of the functions you requested are already coded, things like flaps, throttle, switch fuel tanks, etc.

He's asking to be able to do the things already in the game, but by activating them in the virtual cockpit (by clicking them). I don't remember reading anything about adding any new things to have control over.

There is a major problem with this wish. Not every cockpit in game is fully detailed enough to contain all of the "clickable" objects Tyrannis wish to have implemented.

-1 for this wish. HTC has better things on their agenda than something like this.

I have to give this a -1 too.

I fly FSX as well, I don't click on something in the cockpit unless I have to, it's a huge PITA.  I try to map everything I need to a key or my throttle and yoke anyway.
I'm Sector95 in-game! :-D

oohhh i now understand. perhaps you should look at the simp pits posted in the other forums.  that would be closer to rl than clicking on the monitor.

but seriously, you would probably be the only one to use it if it was implemented. see ww1 arena for further explanation.

You obviously missed this thread.
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,305560.0.html

Adding what you ask on the grounds of making it more challenging is a false argument. You seem to miss the fact that everyone plays by the same rules. The real challenge is not flying the airplane but rather out flying your opponent. So adding what you ask would not make it more challenging, because the goal of killing some one does not become any more difficult or easy because your opponent has to deal with all the same items. So in the end what you ask for detracts from the fun part (fighting) and puts more emphasis on plane knowledge and cockpit management.

2nd in many cases what you ask for becomes less realistic when it comes to cockpit management. With most computer setups  the easy of flying is far more difficult than flying the real thing in almost all regions of flight. So you are asking to make cockpit management much more difficult than flying the real thing.

3rd it would make it much more difficult for a new person to experience is first fight.

Finally as I have said before, you really are just asking to have to remember to push a few more keys on the keyboard. AH is about flying & fighting, not about having to remember a check list.

HiTech

The same basic principle applies. It isn't worth their time to coad the buttons we have now into
the cockpit. A little added immersion for some players, sure, but otherwise it's a complete waste
of time.
Plazus brings up another good point with this post as well, in case you missed it.

hate those mouse-clicky cockpits, I'd much rather have an API for hardware controls and gauges.

i know what hes talking about from a game i have ( but yet be able to play it) called B17 superfortress, you have to follow the start up procedures by the book, I'm talking a long list for each motor that you had to do x4 or the plane would not start, miss a sequence and you would have to start over, every postion in the plane you had to move switches and dials, took me forever to get it started, move it  :joystick: never flew over 10 miles until death came a knockin   ugh it was terrible, boring, frustrating all wrapped up in one game  :bhead, lol its still on the shelf to remain forever, if AH went that route, it just wouldn't work
