Headset Issues

Hey, I might sound like an idiot (I very well may be, given past experience), but I need some help switching from a headset to speakers.  My system is as follows:

Box: Athlon X2 64
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

My monitor has speakers inside, I just need help in getting them to turn on!

^ I think he's asking if you've taken a wire from the sound output on your computer and connected it to the sound input on the monitor.

Video cables do not carry sound signals unless they are HDMI cables. As edog1977 mentioned, you may need a 1/8" stereo cable to connect the speaker output on your computer to the sound input on your monitor.

It's probably worth noting that monitor speakers are almost always junk, I'll let your ears be the judge though. As other have said, a 3mm wire is probably what you're lacking.

Why switch? Go to a Radio Shack, worst buy, or one of many online stores and buy yourself a Y cable or splitter for the headphone jack.

Plug the single end into your sound card, speakers into one side, headphones into the other side.

Now you control what you hear from where.

What was the problem, penguin?

I should also not that even though an HDMI cable CAN carry sound, the video card *AND* the monitor both have to support it as well.

Even though my monitor has an HDMI input, it won't play sound unless I hook up a separate speaker wire, even though my Video Card supports it.  No biggie, the monitor's speakers aren't very good anyway.
