Win7 program files specific question
« on: March 04, 2011, 12:17:54 PM »
I've read the thing about Windows 7 and the Program Files directory, and the update where AH was moved to a different default directory to bypass this problem.

My question is: Is this problem specific to the Program Files directory, or to ALL directories under it as well?

I got into the habit a long time back of creating a custom folder inside my Program Files one, and installing all my software there. It made it easier to find things for backup and for file editing in games and such.

If I were to install AH as /program files/custom/Aces High

would I run into the same problems? Everything under /program files/ would be affected?

Thanks in advance

I am pretty sure it affects all files that are saved/directed to the programfiles folder all be it programfiles(x86) or programfiles which is for the 64 bit apps when it comes to Aces high and windows Vista/Windows 7, it affects and screws up the updating of AH with patches...etc...
I may be wrong though, but that is how I understood the post about it

hope this helps

edit: I myself got in to the habit back in windows95 to not install any software ( that was not from Microsoft ) to the default programfiles folder.... I found it overloaded the folder and caused any sort of problems in the long run.....

I default every program install to its own folder in the C:\ root directory.....  but that is just a personal preference

All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

Yes EVERYTHING in either program files folder is affected.

If you don't want those issues, just make a new folder off of root C: (such as C:\dontscrewwithmyprograms\Aces High)

another option would be  C:\skuzzysaysineedtoinstallprogramshere\Aces High

In my case, I have my primary drive partitioned so system files go to C: and programs go to D: and my AH install folder is simply D:\AcesHigh

I like to keep folder names 8 characters or less with no spaces when I can, but this goes back to DOS days.  Skuzzy can probably relate.
