Erratic program behaviour triggered by high alt B-26
« on: February 22, 2011, 06:58:32 AM »
Currently I'm conducting offline tests on all level bombers. For that I do use the AHTA08 and take off from 30K base.

So far, the B-26 is the only plane I found triggering the following error: After a few moments on the runway, the complete world disappears (including plane) all i see is the blue sky. No sound, no movement, I can't look into any direction. I'm just able to get back to tower by .ef
Funny thing is: After that I tried to take off in different planes from different bases, but suddenly got the same error. Even changing offline map didn't help, I had to restart AH.
I then checked if it's because of that very airfield and lifted the B-26 from a lower base and started to climb with vertical wind assistance. Same here: Once I broke 30k, the world disappeared and I had to restart AH to fly any plane.

This weird bug had only been triggered by taking a B-26 to 30k on any map.

Had the same bug in a B-29 past 40k. Just saw sky.  I alt-F4ed out.

It's an old issue that didn't used to happen until about 70K or so (using uplift wind). Apparently it has dropped a bit and is plane specific. You may simply be flying the B-26 in a place it was never intended to fly :P

Descending should make it all reappear, from some tests I did way way way back. Once you drop below that alt it all reappears. You're still there, just "clipped" graphically.

Replicated issue in B-29 again, right at 41,000.  Tried to descend but didn't see anything, used .ef to get back to tower but AH crashed after that.

It does not reappear. In fact, the bug is very persistent, once this happened, even going back to tower (.ef)  didn't fix it. In any plane I tried to up after that screen went blue immediately on the runway. Only thing  possible was to reset AH by restarting it.

That was a problem of the engine simply not tracking anything higher than 70,000ft. It was altered to a higher altitude in a patch a long time back.

tl;dr That's a feature, this is a bug.

I have tons of Screen shots of this incident. I don't have a photo host so I can't post the shots, but I even have one where the world is.. wrapped around me like a calzone. I wasn't under anything.. the trees are pointing at me as are all structures on the nearby airbase. This was in a P51.. at takeoff...  Sometimes mountains would randomly vanish but the trees remained.. was weird and had the restart AH to fix.

Quote from: Patch 1
Fixed a bug that would cause some planes to get put into a frozen state if they were operating above their normal ceiling in a lightened condition.
