some trackir problems
« on: May 21, 2011, 05:57:53 PM »
Greetings.

i've stopped playing AH for a long while (several years) then i'm now back. :salute :D

I remember that with old AH versions, when using trackir, i was able to move my head into cockpit thanks to my trackir. I mean, not only controling Yaw, Pitch, Roll, but also slide my head left/right up/down, ffw/bck.

Now with new AH versions, i can't slide my head anymore. Worst is that i can't use keyboard keys to slide my head when trackir is plugged  ! so my head is definitly fixe into cockpit  :frown:

Of course, i checked into Trackir software, my profile, and X,Y,Z are well activated as needed.

What is wrong?
how to setup into the game, if i want to use keyboard or trackir to slide pilot head into cockpit plz?

Thanks for your help.

ok i figured out what was wrong, but don't see how to solve it.

AH "don't like" that both Trackir and Joystick are in use together:

Regarding Head movement, trackIr OR Joystick can control it, but i don't see how for example:
Set Joystick Axis 4 to control "move view forward/backward"
Set Trackir to control "move view up/down" + "move view right/left"

It used to be easy with old AH versions, hoping we still can do this  :headscratch:

well i still can't move inside cocpit, it s very very frustrating  :bhead

Does any had such kind of problem?

problem should be described in an other way:

Can't assign move forward and backward with a joystick axis + other moves with keyboard. Once i've set an axis on moves, other moves can't be assigne to an other device than my joystick  :uhoh

Unfortunately, I don't think that your problem is with the game.  I have trackIR too and havent seen any change in function.  I can have stick AND trackIR together.  As a matter of fact the stick view will override the TrackIR.  All i can suggest is that you install all of the current TrackIR updates.  There have been more than a few since you last played.

well i don't think that problem comes from trackir.

Because, if i unplug TrackIR and close trackir software.
I set all moves to Joy Axis => no problem.
Then, i keep joy Axis 3 assigned to move Fwd/Bckw, and set other moves to keyboards.

Then keyboards move keys does not works: when i press right arrow key, then i see the screen shaking, showing it try to move right, but Unassigned Joy move right/left cancel the order  :joystick:.

This let suppose that mixing devices to control view doesn't works anymore.

I used to do this mix in previous AH release with no problem.

Thanks for reply, but Ctrl+F5 is for disabling TrackIR....

Anyway i tested it, just for the experiment : Change nothing to the problem.

I also made a test, unplugin joystick, unassign all axis, Set move Fwd/Bckw to the mouse wheel => Same result, once wheel is assigned, we can't use keyboard keys anymore to move head.

Hoping, there is a solution somewhere, a ini file to change or what ever.

I can't release my joystick to change head position while dogfighting

still trying to find a solution, i found several bugs regarding Analogic controls.

Those simply doesn't works at all ! :
  • Field of view
  • Change Sign Range

Does anyone succeed to use them with any analogic device (mouse, joystick) ?

If you have the ability to do TrackIR 6-axis mode(vector mode) I beleive you will also have your additional ability to control views in concert with it.

I have a TrackIR3 Pro and the latest TrackIR software 5.3 gives very good results in 6-axis mode. Make sure your camera is 30-36inches away(even up to 40-42inches if needed). Longer distances are tracked as finer motions and allows better rear viewing. In the game make sure under view options TrackIR Relative View is checked only and that you have TrueView enabled along with 6-axis in your TR profile.

I have reduced my TR profile to 3-axis mode combined with only snap view padlock checked in the game view options to inherit F10 saved hps file head positions . In that mode you cannot use an additional device for viewing without first (Ctrl-F5). Or at least view-keys don't work until you (Ctrl-F5).

giova, What TrackIR do you have? What kind of stick do you use? I have the TrackIR 5
and have no problems with it, after the patch to fix a couple of issues. TY HTC.
Your stick/keyboard views will override TrackIR views. If you are wanting to use your look back view
or whatever view, in conjunction with TrackIR, It will not work that way. When I got TIR
I thought it would, but does not.
You should be able to map an analog input like, view move forward & back, left & right, up & down,
and sight range for GV's. An analog device would be your throttle, stick, any trim wheels you may have,
the micro stick on the CH throttle. But all of those views, less the sight range, can be obtained by the
the TIR. If you have only a stick, you might try a cheap 17 key USB keypad to map views, TIR pause and center, and other stuff to it.
You can mount it, glue it, tape it, close to your stick and possably never touch the keyboard except to end flight.
I have one in front of my CH throttle and it works perfectly.
If you play other games with TIR and switch to AH, some times you will have to ctrl.>alt>delete to bring up the task manager and
end process for TIR. That should keep you from having to pull the TIR USB cable....Just a thought.. or two.
As you were. <S>

Giova,
I had the same problem and have since figured it out. In my case I had my TM Warthog Slider set to move view in or out and while I was in the a/c I had moved the slider without realizing and it was causing me to loose the ability to lean left, right, fore, and aft with my TrackIR.
Don't know if your problem might have the same cause but check your sliders and rotaries just to make sure you don't have them mapped to any type of view function (or just center them which worked for me).

Something definitely changed in the game both me and a squadmate lost some viewing angles especially the left to right to check from behind the seat. It was so bad tuesday that I had to exit the game.  I checked outside of the game and all functions aok.  I will try again tonight.

Regarding keyboard and TrackIR,   I've never been able to move the head with trackir enabled and the keyboard.   Don't think that's a bug,  its that TrackIR taking priority of the moves.

As for leaning left / right / up / down,   My TrackIR5 works perfectly.    In Aces high,  I have the setting set to 'use relative views'  for track ir.     Perhaps you can try doing the same?   Lastly,  I don't have the joystick set for views  (except for hatswitches)   and use them in rare occasions when I have to 'pause' trackIR  while in flight.
To fly or not to fly, that is the question
