Removing AH versions
« on: June 09, 2011, 08:47:51 AM »
Hello There,

I have 3 versions of AH on my computer

Aces High          Size 1,944.00mb last used 5/22/10
Aces High Beta  Size 366.00mb last used 5/22/10
Aces High II       Size 6,961.00 mb last used 6/1/11

My questions are can I remove the older versions of AH w/o harming my current setup?

Can I decrease the size of AH II by deleting film and old maps etc..?

Thanks for your help

Cheers,
gus

If you have multiple versions of the game, installed in different folders, then yes, you can remove the ones you are not using and it will not impact the version you are using.

Personally, I would backup the folder of the version I was using, before removing the others.

You can reduce the footprint of the game by removing films, skins, custom sounds, and/or terrains.  However, if the game needs a terrain it will install it again.  If you have the auto-download flag checked for skins, they will also be installed again.

I trust Skuzzy can also confirm that the update files (Patches) can also be deleted after they are installed. I usually don't bother deleting the .txt files identifying what was fixed because they are so small, but they can go too. Just make sure you don't delete the aceshigh.exe file when you remove old patch files like AH2242THRU2245.EXE

Yes you can delete the .EXE update files. Once they run they are no longer needed.

EDIT: Just DON'T delete the AH executable as well! It has a similar icon and is near them in the alphabetical file listing! I deleted mine once and it was annoying to get it back. I had a squaddie send me his (we were both up to date on the same version).

Good point.  All the executable files (.EXE) with a name that begins with a capital "AH" can be removed, once they are executed.
