There had been bombs using shaped charge warheads, mostly in use in small bombs / bomblets meant to destroy armored vehicles and being introduced later during the war.
But the classic "AP" bomb was indeed depending on kinetic energy to penetrate armor and had been in use long before WW2. They did differ from general purpose bombs by having much thicker shell cases, less explosive filling(1), were often made of higher grade metals and frequently had a more aerodynamic shape to allow for higher terminal velocities. Some bombs did utilize additional rocket boosters for even higher speeds, which eventually lead to the first guided bombs.

(1) for example the German general purpose SC 500 was filled with ~260 kg of explosives, the anti-armor PC 500 had only 32kg.

The other big difference on AP bombs was a delayed fuse rather than a contact fuse. This allowed the bomb to explode after penetrating the surface of its target.
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

No real use for frags.  No troops except at base captures.

+1

Frags can be used for bombing mulitiple GVs at a time. Might not kill them (except possibly light vehicles) but can damage it. AP bombs can be used on the D3A and SBD for naval warfare. Incendiaries can be used to destroy the town quicker than HE (just an example.) Also, incendiaries can be more effective against strats. While I'm not against the HE bomb, it would be nice to have some variations.

i think it would be quite nice to have the choice to have different types of bombs  +1 :aok

the incendiaries could be used to bomb town centers and/or the HQ cities. Imagine dropping a few bombs over a couple of buildings and seeing flames spread through out the city  :devil

Pyro did mention that there were other types of bombs being developed in a thread some time ago that I started regarding the British 3in/60lb rockets.
