Add rockets to the SBD when it's reworked.  They were carried and used in battle (was brought up @ a year ago in another SBD thread).  Also the hard points were capable of carrying larger bombs.
"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

Caldera is very right on bombload.

The -5 variant of the SBD was capable of carrying a 1600 lb bomb on the center rack and one 325 lb under each wing.

That's almost enough to drop a hangar and just might result in the SBD-5 getting more use than it currently does.

Personally, I'd like to see both the SBD-5 and TBM-3 have their loadouts increased to match historical capabilities (as above and 8 HVAR's on the TBM instead of our current 6). From a gameplay perspective it would be slick to see carrier launched fighters operating as fighters: CAP, BARCAP and escort for the torpedo & dive bombers. Nothing against fully loaded F4U-1D's and F6F's used as heavy fighter bombers; I'd just like to see a more attractive role for the SBD and TBM.

But that's me.

Mystery,

The SBD-5 could not carry those bombs off of a carrier, per the last thread about that subject.  It was an overload used only for very short flights from land bases.

OH! Thanks for the correction, Karnak. My reference materials haven't arrived yet so I was winging it  :o
