Bombing city strat?
« on: December 30, 2011, 12:33:18 PM »
So alot has changed in the 3 years I have been away from the game. I was doing a strat raid on the bish this morning and planned on hitting the city portion of it, but from 25k-ish all i could see were the flak towers, but the other strat buildings showed up just fine. So I ask, what the heck am I suppose to aim for when hitting the city strat?

Any building is a part of the strat %. The guns just count as guns.
I don't think the strat system is in effect so the damage doesn't hamper rebuild times for ack, fuel, etc. at fields. I think it's just there for the bomber guys to give them things to hit but really have no bearing on the game.

The "island" of buildings in the center - everything else other than the other strats are just decoration.

It is in effect and it does work...  But unless a truly coordinated effort is being made, these effects are too subtle to be noticed in any way. Just dropping a few bombs randomly across the strats is basically wasted time in terms of gameplay impact.

About 840 lbs.

You can examine object harness even during a sortie in the arena settings.

Is this true?  If so that means that the strat system is worthless.  Can someone from HighTech Creations comment on this?  Are the AH web help pages that far out of date?

The City Strat Resupplies the Other Rear Strats.

If you hit the City Strat, and someone else hits another strat, it takes longer for the City Strat to Resupply the other strats.

Clear as mud?
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

The way I remember it, if you want the strats' resupply time longer, you MUST bomb the City down before you touch a strat; if the City is full up when you bomb a strat, that strat gets full strength supply even if you subsequently bomb the City.

Hmmmm this one I never heard, nor can I really say for sure if it's the case or not. Interesting. I'm off to do another test!

Regardless of the functionality of the strat system in terms of it actually affecting anything (which it does), it does not work at all in terms of actual gameplay in the MA.

I believe one of the biggest problems is that very few actually understand how the strat system works. (heck many still do not understand how collisions work)

Another problem is that to do enough damage it requires more effort VS results than hitting other targets.  For example you can "up" a mission for a field and take it down fairly easily, vs hitting the strats, and then still have to attack the same field.  I consistently still see pilots obsessed with taking out the FH's and not bothering with taking out the field ack, which regardless of the FH's would make defense very difficult.  As a result I understand why no one bothers with the strats.

and now that I'm probably off subject :uhoh and ranting :uhoh
I think the easiest fix for the strats is to make their effect global, and very very noticable, and have nothing to due with "respawn" times which is currently in place.  I would like immediate results, for example if I hit the "city" maybe it requires less buildings down in a town for a white flag.  If I hit "ords" maybe AAA fire at a field is less effective.  If I hit troops, maybe a goon only carry's 5 instead of 10.

Finally, I do not think they should be resupplied.  To resupply is way too easy, the strats are usually far out of any realistic range to prevent a resupply.

What I believe we would get is a "horde mission"  except that there will be an enormous amount of time to prepare as opposed to the 1 or 2 sector overwhelm a base mission.
Not everyone wants to up a 190 and climb to 30k to attack a huge bomber formation about to effect the game in a huge way, but I think alot of us do.

...end of rant...

i belive when the city is below 50% hitting the other strats does have an effect ... not sure if my thoughts are still valid but thats how strats used to work... theyre not just there for show

Not trying to turn this into a general start discussion (help&trainign forum after all), so I want to comment only on this:

Finally, I do not think they should be resupplied.  To resupply is way too easy, the strats are usually far out of any realistic range to prevent a resupply.

Ever since the new starts came up, I never have seen anybody actually resupplying them, so I guess it's pretty rare. The down times of the MA factories I observed during this tour were pretty much in line with the standard values (auto resupply) as well.
And as a matter of fact, the City can't be resupplied at all.
