Cheap Alternative for Hard Drive Purchasing

with the recent price increase on most all Hard Drives, I may have a cheaper alternative for those wanting or needing to purchase a  1TB ~ 3 TB  SATA III 6.0 GBs  internal HD

Newegg is running sales on External Hard Drivesfor most Brands/Manufacturers, to where the enclosed/included HD is the same as their Internal HD cousin, yet the cost is only 1/2 or even 1/3rd of what the Internal HD is costing verses what the External USB 3.0 ( SATA III 5.0/6.0 GBs speed ) version costs

this figures out to be  257.27 - 99.99 = a savings of $ 157.28  by going this route, plus the added bonus of a USB 3.0 External HD enclousre


You can remove the 2TB Hitachi HD from the external enclosure and install it in your computer, and still have the use of the USB 3.0 External Housing ( which is backwards compatible 3.0 ~ 2.0 ) for any other Hard Drives you might have laying around

just an alternative suggestion, that can save you money and also get yourself an External HD enclosure

good call. recently needed an IDE drive, called around and only 1 store in my county had any IDE drives left - just 2 and they have a max of 2 HDs per customer per week, I bought both. that tells you how low stocks are at the moment. I may go back in wearing a ginger wig and glasses disguise to grab a couple of SATA drives tomorrow



edit: I suspect production may be starting up again in Bangkok or ramped up somewhere else because I ordered 4 machines from HP a few weeks back (with 500GB drives) and the lead time was 5 weeks. then they bounced the delivery date forward to early Feb 2012 ... and then they turned up last friday

you actually quoted a WD 1 TB at best buy while quoting a WD 2 TB at newegg

the closest  WD 2 TB  that BestBuy carrys that is similar but not the exact model is

even though the models are different it could be because newegg is oem while bestbuy is the full retail.  also bestuy is known for asking to sell  a product exclusively in some instances, so manufacturers will just give it a different model number.  most likely due to bestbuys price matching crap as most other big stores do.

but look at the description and they are the same.

I agree, Best Buy has cheaper pricing, especially on the "1 TB"  models albeit  regarding SATA 3.0 GBs  or the SATA 6.0 GBs versions

although the "2 TB" models seem to be more closer in cost with other retailers

not trying to argue, semp........ was just trying to show alternatives to paying the higher prices for a regular internal "whatever capacity" HD  verses going the External USB route and saving money while gaining an External enclosure, and still being 5.0 GBs or 6.0 GBs  tranfer/bandwidth speeds

now regarding  newegg vs bestbuy, and truly talking apples to apples here. Here is an identical comparison showing Best Buy being Cheaper

these are the same....  just trying to offer possible cheaper solutions, nothing more - nothing less

one can still save money by going the External USB 3.0 HD route and have the extras of the add-on card as well as the External Enclosure. even if one was to go through Best Buy to purchase, instead of using Newegg....... still saves them money

TC i dont consider anything here arguing, but more like an exchange of ideas and info  .  i actually need 2 hd's but waiting for as long as i have to till they go back to 750g for 60 bucks like it was 1 month ago.
